Just to let those of you know, who don't-I finished The Good Old Days and it is posted. This is a little of a new one I'm writing.

The Break-Up

Teddy couldn’t believe it. Sure Jinny had blown up at him in the parking lot and he wasn’t exactly sure why, but he was sure that they would be able to work it out. He loved her. But here he was having searched for her all night and she was at the local bar making out with some other guy. He knew about her past, but that’s what he thought it was...the past. Teddy felt rage building within him, but he was not the type to make a public scene. Instead he turned away and headed out the door.

Jinny continued to kiss the unknown man. A small voice told her not too, that she was blowing whatever small chance she still had with Teddy, but she couldn’t stop. This was normal. This was what she did. Besides after the way she had spoken to him in the parking lot, she’d be surprised she ever saw him again. ’Stupid.’ Jinny thought to herself as she kissed the man a little more passionately. But Jinny had never been one to just let a good thing happen. She always found a way to screw it up...or at least that’s what she told herself.

Okay I posted a reply on this page about changing the topic to Breaking Up is Hard To Do but since more people are responding with this topic and it is the original I figured I'd stick with this. Anyway here's a little more:

Teddy walked along the street no really thinking about where he was going. Life sure took some funny twist...this morning he had told Jinny he loved her and they were planning to go away for the weekend; now she was making out with some other guy in a bar. It was still too hard to fully grasp. The anger Teddy had experienced in the bar was still with him only now it was a slow steady hum.

The man’s hands were beginning to roam as the drinks became more and the hour grew late. Jinny thought about stopping it all. Just going home and leave it at that. But it had been so long since Jinny had just had fun. Had a few drinks...left with a cute guy. One more time couldn’t hurt.

Just so people don't think I've abandoned this story I'm letting you know that: One) I really appreciate all the feedback and Two) I've decided that I'm not posting small little bits anymore...I'm going to finish it then do one big post...hopefull it'll be soon, but I've also been working a lot on my web page and I've fallen behind. But I promise it will be finished soon!!!!!

Teddy looked at the street signs as he continued to walk around the dark city. The sign confirmed what he had begun to suspect...he was heading for Jinny’s apartment. He wanted to talk to her, he just didn’t know where to start...or even if he could start. But he had to know if she was there. It had been at least an hour since he left the bar and Jinny should be home now, right? She might mess around with the stranger after one too many drinks - but she wouldn’t sleep with him.

Jinny struggled to stand upright as she and the unknown man got up to leave the bar. ‘What had he said his name was? Eric, or Bob, or Jack? Something like that.’ Jinny didn’t really care, she just wanted to have a good time...keep the night young and not remember anything.

Teddy stood outside Jinny’s door just staring at the numbers. He knew he had to knock, but he was afraid of the answer he would receive - or more to the point receive no answer at all. Sometimes it was better just not knowing, but he knew it would kill him if he didn’t find out now. After taking a deep breath, Teddy knocked on the door and waited for an answer.

Jinny went with the guy to his apartment. She always went to the guy’s place...she never took them home with her. She wanted to be in a different setting, where memories couldn’t intrude. The alcohol was starting to make she sleepy and she was so relaxed that she could have gone to sleep standing on the porch waiting for the guy to open the door. But he got the door open and they moved inside to continue the evening.

Teddy waited outside Jinny’s door all night. After he was sure she wasn’t there he sat down in the hallway and decided to wait for her to show up. It was now six o’clock in the morning and he knew she had to be at work by eight. Where was she? Why did she do this? By now Teddy was fairly certain that she had spent the night with the nameless man at the bar. He didn’t know what to do...

Jinny rolled over in bed and sighed. Her head was pounding, but she knew it was time to get up. With a yawn she sat up in bed to face a new day...and a new face. It had been so long since Jinny had woken up in a strange bedroom and encountered a man she didn’t remember. As politely as she could she got dressed and left to hurry home and get ready for work.

Teddy looked up when he heard footsteps coming down the hallway. Finally Jinny was home. He watched her walk towards him in the same clothes - a little worse for wear - and her head down. She hadn’t seen him yet, but chances were she wouldn’t be too happy when she did.

Jinny walked to the door to her apartment, the pounding in her head was disappearing a gradually, but the impact of what she had done was becoming clear. She was back to square one. As she got closer to her door she raised her head and immediately wished she hadn’t.

Teddy looked Jinny straight in the eye when she raised her head. She looked completely wiped out...all he wanted to do was pull her into his arms and protect her...feel like things were the same. But he tried to replay the image that had been passing through his head all night. She was with another guy. Obviously she didn’t want to be with him anymore and she sure didn’t love him as much as he loved her.

Jinny walked past Teddy to her apartment, she really didn’t want to deal with this right now. Actually she never wanted to deal with this, but it was a really bad time. Plus he was always upset when she stayed out all night...not that he wasn’t already upset with her for yesterday...this just added to it.

“Jinny?” Teddy decided to speak since Jinny had just walked past him as if he didn’t exist, even though he knew that she had seen him.

“Yeah?” Jinny unlocked the door and tried to focus on things besides Teddy and the previous night.

“We need to talk.” Teddy wanted to kick himself for choosing those words. They sent warning signs like road flares.

“About what?” Jinny walked into the apartment and turned on the light while Teddy followed behind her.

“About yesterday and...and last night.” Teddy moved into the apartment and shut the door.

“Look I know that I over reacted yesterday in the parking lot and I’m sorry. I don’t know what happened I just felt unwanted and last night was...look I have to get ready for work or I’m going to be late.”

“Jinny, I saw you.”

“What?”

“At the bar...last night...with that other guy.”

“Oh.”

“Oh? That’s what you have to say? I was worried about you. I mean, I tell you I love you and want to spend time with you, then I say I have a great career chance and want to postpone our trip - you blow up at me and hours later I find you in a bar making out with some other guy. The only thing you can say is oh?”

“What else do you want me to say? Do you want me to try and explain? Okay, well I basically felt unwanted and not worth anyone’s time so I decided to go out and have some drinks rather than staying by myself here. I started drinking and talking to some of the people around me, this guy came up and started buying me drinks and we starting kissing. I was having a good time and I didn’t want to stop. Is that good enough for you?”

“No! No, it’s not good enough for me. I love you and we have a fight -a stupid fight I might add - and you run out and sleep with the first guy we see?”

“Look, I never lied to you about who I was or what I’m like. You went into this knowing full well what could happen. I’m not like you...I’ve been living the same way for so long that I’m not sure I can ever change.”

“We were doing so well. I guess I just don’t know where everything started going wrong.”

“It was probably when you said ‘hey Jinny wanna go out?’ and I was stupid enough to say yes.”

“You know that’s not true. I thought we would make it...I thought we’d be able to talk everything out and...”

“What? We’d live happily ever after? Well, I don’t believe in happily ever after. I doesn’t exist.”

“Jinny, how can you be so cynical?”

“I’m a realist. Life is a huge joke...and no matter what we do, we still die. “

“Jinny...I don’t know how to reply to that remark, but I hope you don’t really believe that.”

“Teddy, I have to get ready for work...and I just think that we should try and remain friends.”

“Are you breaking up with me? ’Cause see that’s funny, you cheated on me and you now have me worrying about you and forget that I’m madder than I’ve been in my entire life...and now you want to remain friends! Jinny I love you and just because you slept with someone else the feelings don’t just go away, but...I don’t think I like you anymore. At the moment friendship between us just isn’t possible.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Me too....I guess I’ll go and let you get ready for work. See you around?”

“Yeah, see you.”

Teddy closed the door of Jinny’s apartment behind then leaned his head against the door letting the tears that he had been holding back fall freely down his face.

Jinny walked into her bedroom as tears began to cascade down her face. She looked to her desk and saw an open bottle sitting on the edge less than half full. She picked it up and sat down on her bed. It may not be the best solution to the problems in her life, but it was stable and it was easy. Jinny drank the rest of the bottle before getting ready and leaving for work.

Jinny I love you and just because you slept with someone else the feelings don’t just go away, but...I don’t think I like you anymore. At the moment friendship between us just isn’t possible.” “I’m sorry.” “Me too....I guess I’ll go and let you get ready for work. See you around?” “Yeah, see you.” *** Teddy closed the door of Jinny’s apartment behind then leaned his head against the door letting the tears that he had been holding back fall freely down his face. **** Jinny walked into her bedroom as tears began to cascade down her face. She looked to her desk and saw an open bottle sitting on the edge less than half full. She picked it up and sat down on her bed. It may not be the best solution to the problems in her life, but it was stable and it was easy. Jinny drank the rest of the bottle before getting ready and leaving for work. The End!!!
