Default Another Bad Sign for FOX's 'Do Not Disturb?'

http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=7746

On September 10, the Fox comedy Do Not Disturb will present "Work Sex," about the workers at The Inn fooling around on the job, in lieu of the pilot, which will air sometime in the future. This may be a sign of trouble.

Wow, it hasn't even aired yet and it's having problems. Didn't FOX cancel a Scott Baio sitcom years ago without even airing a single episode?

Yep, in the fall of 1997, FOX announced but never aired the Scott Baio sitcom "Rewind." That was actually just the beginning of FOX doing that to some of its planned fall shows. Here are some more examples:

Fall 1998: "Hollyweird" - Thriller that fell apart before it was launched.
Fall 1999: "Manchester Prep" - TV adaption of "Cruel Intentions" that never aired.
Fall 2000: "Night Visions" - Horror anthology that did end up getting a summer 2001 time slot for a few weeks.
Fall 2002: "The Grubbs" - Sitcom starring Carol Kane & Randy Quaid that was shown in TV Guide's Fall Preview, but was pulled before its scheduled 11/3/02 debut.

Seriously - maybe if FOX aired the episodes in order for once, the show would do well.

I honestly see nothing for this show - I don't think it'll do well, I don't think it'll make it long at all. FOX will end up pulling it a few episodes in, no doubt.

I thought so. Thank you for clarifying that, Howie!

No problem, Monika! Interestingly enough, in early 2003, FOX announced they wanted to try to premiere some of their fall 2003 shows around early August ("The O.C." immediately comes to mind) to try to fight the month-long hiatus FOX faces each October for a lot of its primetime shows due to its World Series baseball contract (this is a big reason why a lot of the aforementioned FOX shows got pulled before they aired). Needless to say, that plan didn't last very long.

It's never a good sign when the pilot episode isn't good enough to be aired first.

Judging by the commercials I've seen, Do Not Disturb won't be around very long anyway.

I second that, and you can bet FOX won't support it at all.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. I still think this show is doomed.

Did anyone catch it? I actually forgot all about it - I was thinking it premiered next week.

Ratings were absolutely horrendous - 4.65 million viewers tuned in for the premiere at 9:30. That's just embarrassing. Til Death had something around 6.1 million viewers. How worse could it get? I give the show another 2 weeks before FOX cans it. It'll most likely dip under 4 million next week.

I'd also like to point out that Back to You last season premiered around the same time with 9.44 million viewers, while DND couldn't even get half of that. FOX is finally getting what they deserved all along.

Not good ratings:

'Til Death did about the same it was doing last season in the second half, similar to Back to You.

Wow, Pav, you posted those finals fast today-LOL. But, they are hugely disappointing ratings, more for DND than Til Death. I'm sure FOX wasn't expecint much more out of TD, but even I was expecting DND to get at least 7 million for its premiere.

I bet it'll be gone by the time the World Series is over.
