A season three episode (according to the Shout! set)--the opening still has "Hotpoint presents" along with that theme music that was just not very good IMO. Since this ran about 24 minutes, I'd say this was a non-syndicated episode, since it seems uncut. Anyhoo, the plot boils down to Ricky trying to write back a girl he met on last Christmas vacation. Problem is, he has now misplaced the letter so he can't recall the return address. Ozzie thinks some snapshots the girl sent provide a clue with a shot of the car's license plate #. Turns out it was the Nelsons' car!
The family decides to keep Ricky's mind off the letter dilemma by doing things such as going to the movies, the fights, playing sports (the sight of Harriet playing basketball is a hoot!), fixing special desserts, taken out to eat at the malt shop, etc. Ricky then reveals he isn't concerned with writing her back since all he wanted was his lucky rabbit foot back, but considering all what has been going on, he decides he doesn't need it anymore. Harriet informs him otherwise ![]() Another nice amusing episode, but not anything downright hilarious. |

You kinda figure Ricky isn't interested in the girl from the beginning, but it makes you wonder why he wants to write her. I just love the younger Ricky, so amusing. The episode was probably cut by about two mintes. Shows from the 50's were about 26 to 28 minutes, not even enough time for a bathroom break back then. If you time the commercials, most were never more than 30 seconds and usually not even that long. Makes you wonder how the sponsors made money, but it sure was good to be able to watch 15 minutes without a commercial. Remeber how some shows told you who would sponsor next week's show? That's just amazing to me today.

Yes this was a cute ep with Thornie as Detective Columbo, not a really good Dtc unf. - Thornie does smoke a mean pipe but alas - it doesn't turn him into any Sherlock. Ricky sure does have personality boy - he doesn't mess around!

And let's not forget, while Harriet is playing basket ball, it's also one of the few rare occasions and maybe the first?? that we see her in pants.

I know, I was amazed to see her in pants. I believe she wore pants in the Ghost Town episode and maybe Blue Moose at the end? Not too sure about that one though.

The episode is actually from season two, not three. And I believe that except for the sponsorships, this episode does appear uncut on the Best of Ricky and Dave set. It runs over 25 minutes. It's certainly not the most exciting episode of OZZIE AND HARRIET, but it's definitely better than the first episode on the new set--- "A Door Key For David" from season one. IMO, that episode was simply dreadful. So far, out of the 40-50 episodes I've seen of the show, I have to say the best episode is "The Trophy," with "Tutti Frutti Ice Cream" as a close second.

Well, if it from season two as you claim, then the DVD set has it wrong--for shame!!

I think one of us has a typo on our DVD sets. On my set, "Ricky's Lost Letter" is listed as a season two episode: and TV.com confirms that (not that they're always reliable, though).
