Default Family Matters of Family Matters?

I'm trying to figure how the title Family Matters is supposed to be interpreted. Growing up (and even now), I always thought that it was "Family Matters" as in family situations, but when its mentioned on Nick@Nite, they use it in context as "Family Matters" as in family is important. Which one is it?

well matters is just a synonym for situation. Therefore, family-related situations and ya I agree about it being family is important.

It probably is supposed to be a show about the importance of family, but I guess they thought "Family Matters" would be a good name for it (and it is), becuase it's a play on words, pertaining to family issues.
If not, it sounds good, right?

Yeah, I never got it either - I guess it could be an ambiguous name, but it's funny, because I was thinking the same thing lately. I always thought it meant "Family situations" for some reason. I never even gave thought to the fact that it could be meant as "Family is important."

But, while watching on NAN, when they did the "Next on NAN . . . Family Matters" thing right before it came on, they said it in a way that would make it seem like it was "family is important," which got me thinking about it. I don't think we'll ever know.

If it was "Family is important," that would be a hugely loose term, considering tehy just abandoned one of their kids and made it seem like she never existed and pretty much kicked their sister, son, and mother out in favor of an annoying neighbor.

WOW! I can't believe my brain never processed the possibilty of that over the past 12 years I have been watching this show. I don't think it is meant to be that though, remember the WB logo at the end and Carl does the voice over and says Family Matters is a Miller Boyett Production in association with Lorimar television he makes it sound like Family Situations as opposed to Family is Important, that is my opinion. What do you guys think of that?

But would "Family Matters" as in "Family situations" be pronounced differently than "Family Matters" as in "Family is important"?

I think they picked that title specifically because it means both of those things.

I know what you mean - it'll bother me now until I find out exactly what it means. I agree with you, though, that it's supposed to mean "Family Situations." that just makes more sense with the show's premise.

Once again, I can almost promise you, that it's supossed to be ambiguous.
