*The Station*

Jinny *on the phone*: I love you, Teddy... yes, I love you very much, Teddy Bear, you're my teddy.. I'm going to pick up some flowers after I get done.. they'll be as sweet as I am.. yes, I hope you feel better my little teddy... *looks up to see Capt. standing there. She quickly pulls herself together*.. I gotta go, Teddy. See ya. *hangs up* That was Teddy. He's got some flu.
Capt: Poor him. I've got a new case for you.
Jinny: It's not a dog one, is it?
Capt: It's an old case.
Jinny: One of them "never been solved" ones?
Capt: Yeah, I guess you could call it that.
Jinny: Why are you giving it to me?
Capt: It's a personal case. 20 years ago, when I started here, my first case was important, involving a suicide.
Jinny: That's a hard beginning.
Capt: It involved a woman who was very well known in the community. Had been married for about, oh, twenty years, had three very nice kids. The woman decided to take her life one day, and my case was to find out why. When I read over the report, I found it too hard, too mentally hard for me. I could only imagine how the kids and husband felt, and put it away and decided if I ever became captain or something, I'd give someone the case. Maybe then they could handle it better than me.
Jinny *realizing something*: It's not about my mother, is it?
Capt: It is.
Jinny: Can I work with Mag on it or something?
Capt: This is your own personal case, Jin. I think you can handle it.
Jinny *taking the case folder*: Thanks, Capt.
Capt: Take your time on it. I'm sure you just want to put the mystery to rest and.. *sighs* put it to rest soon.
Jinny: Don't we all.

*Later. Jinny drives home, forgetting about Teddy*
Jinny: I'll call him later.
*She pulls up at her house. She goes into her room and reads over the folder*
Jinny: 'Virginia Exstead. 41, died January 30th, 1971. Survivors are John Exstead, husband, John Jr, 15, Virginia, 14, and Casey, 13.' *stops reading* I always wanted them to call me Jinny in the obituary. *continues* 'A fatal shot caused a mother of three and a faithful wife to lose her life Monday afternoon around 2:30. Reporters have been notified husband is a police officer and had left gun at home. Reason is unknown to press at the time. Says husband, "No comment on why." *stops reading* I'll have to talk to Dad on this.

*Later at the Exstead house. Casey, John, and Jinny all playing poker w/Mr. Exstead*
Jinny: I got Mom's case today.
Casey: You what?
John: Her case?
Jinny: Yeah, why she died and stuff.
Mr. Exstead: Why'd you get that?
Jinny: Capt. said I should take it.
Mr. Exstead: What'd it say?
Jinny: Only twenty years ago it quoted you on saying that you had no comment on why. You knew why?
Mr. Exstead: I don't think it's fair for me to say.
John: Yeah.
Jinny: Shut up, I wasn't asking you. *turns to her father* Is it really that bad?
Mr. Exstead: I just don't think that you should be knowing why.
Casey: What was it?
Mr. Exstead *getting up*: I'm going to bed.
John: Way to go, Jinny.
Jinny: What I'd do?
John: You know he only told the oldest why Mom commited suicide and yet you asked him so much that he decided to leave.
Jinny/Casey: He told you?
John: So?
Jinny: I need to know.
John: All right... Mom and Dad were having problems with us... and... she decided she couldn't take it any more and...
Jinny: 'Us'? We were the problem? We were the reason she decided to die? We were..
John: Jinny...
Jinny: I can't believe it! I just..
John: Who are you getting mad at? Me?
Jinny: I'm just... oh, God... I didn't know all this!
*Mr. Exstead walks over*
Mr. Exstead: That's why I never told any of you but John. I thought he could take it more than you.
Jinny: Yeah, now I can tell!
*She gets up and leaves*

*Station*
Magda: So, how's the case going?
Jinny: My mother's case? Well, John told me everything I didn't need to know.
CD: How'd he tell you that?
Jinny: I was asking my father, and he answered for him. Guys... *voice breaking*... I was the reason.
Angela: The reason she..?
Jinny: Us kids. I-I didn't even know that, and now I found out and... and...
Magda: You want a kleenex?
Jinny: No, I just... it's just like, it didn't even cross my mind that we were the reason Mom just decided to die..... and it was like...
Magda: You wanna give up the case?
Jinny: It's finished. I can't do anymore.
Magda: OK.
*Capt. comes over*
Capt: How's the... *stops*
Jinny: I'm finished with it.
Capt: It was that easy?
Jinny: It was that hard. It really was mentally hard... and...
Capt: You found out the answer, Jinny, and that's all that matters.
Jinny: I guess so. *she starts to leave* I gotta go visit Teddy.
Capt: Tell him I hope he feels better.
Jinny: I will.
*She starts to leave and then turns back*
Jinny: Captain?
Capt: Yeah?
Jinny: Thanks for the case. It put it to rest.
Capt: You're welcome.
*Jinny leaves, starts her car and drives off*

(I know, sad ending and everything, but I couldn't think of a way to end it! Oh well, just r/r for me! Pweeze? [puppy face])
