Default The abortion episode.

As a conservative, I find it really annoying, that crazy Beverly is the only one, who they present as pro-life. Except that Roseanne started wondering if she could go through with an abortion, even if there was something wrong with her baby. But fortuneately, Bev's pro-life stand and Roseanne's doubts saves this episode from having complete liberal pro-choice bias.

Roseanne's show incorporated her own feminist viewpoints and many feminists view the right to an abortion as a basic human right. So if you didn't like how Bev gave the only pro-life perspective, Roseanne would probably say, "tough". To her and myself, there is no reasonable argument on the other side. Why give unnecessary attention to a view that puts women in danger? If you want that other view, watch another show.

I admire Roseanne for her guts to put an unapologetic feminist viewpoint on television.

How about that the fetus is a human life, that has the right to live too?

Now really, I don't like how they used Bev, who's mostly portraited like an annoying crazywoman, was the only one given pro-life views. It's like they want to show, that everybody with such views are just as annoying and crazy as Bev. That was a very ignorant and biased thing to do.

It would have been more interesting, if one the daughters, Becky or Darlene, had been given those pro-life views. But they had to have Becky be a totally ignorant bimbo about it, and Darlene wasn't even there, so who knows what she would have said. And notice how Mark and David both are in the episode, but neither of them give their opinion on the subject. What did they think?

I've only been a casual watcher of this show, so it's only dawned on me recently, that it might be to liberal for my taste. I was even surprised to see them do an episode about abortions. I've never seen such an episode on any other sitcom.

A fetus in the stages of where it may be aborted is not a fully developed human yet...

If you have conservative views you'd just love some other topics they cover.. like masturbation, same gender marriage, same sex kisses, drugs...

Masturbation isn't one of our issues though. There are worse things going on in the world.

How many times did they discuss abortion on the show?

First, Roseanne thought she might be pregnant and Becky and Darlene were worried about both the financial burden that would be put on them and that they would again have yet another sibling running around. Becky was worried about her college fund, too.

Then, Roseanne thought that she was going to have a special needs baby and she and Dan argued over what they should do. Great episode!

In one episode, Nana Mary says that she had had a couple of abortions. I know that the character was supposed to be quirky, but come on. I'm sure that she had other hobbies when she was younger!

I remember Roseanne asking Darlene if she knew about all of her options when Darlene revealed she was pregnant.

Yeah. I assume that Rosey was pro-choice!

If this is the episode I recall, then I don't recall Bev's viewpoint and really I couldn't stand listening to her anyway so I guess I wouldn't care what old bag had to say. But if this is the one where Dan and Rosanne were fighting over what to do, I have to say as much as I love Rosanne I felt she was being a bitch in this episode in not taking Dan's feelings into consideration. I only believe in abortion in two situations and that is rape and the mother's life being in danger. Rosanne was forgetting that Dan was the other parent here. Sure, it's her body and she carries the kid, but damnit Dan is the father! HE WAS NOT PUSHING HER, HE WANTED TO TALK!! And then Jackie ticked me off with her big nose in it too. IT WAS NOT HER BUSINESS!! I'm glad it turned out the way it did, but damn I wanted to smack the hell out of both Rosanne and Jackie!

You've got the right episode!

I think Dan was wrong about wanting to abort the baby. A disabled child has the right to live too. But I also agree with you, that Roseanne really should have discussed it with him, since he was the father. As he said, "when the baby is out, half the responsiblity is mine".
