Author’s Note: This is my first DIVISION fic. Please review--whether you like it or not. The italicized words are those of a song that fits into this fic. The song does not belong to me---I don’t claim it. I don’t plan on continuing this fic, it’s just a short one I felt like writing.
“When You Say Nothing At All” It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart Without saying a word you could light up the dark Try as I may I can never explain What I hear when you don't say a thing Jinny starred across the room at Theodore. They were at the Anchorside. Ten minutes ago they had been laughing and just enjoying the company of each other. Then Jinny had gone to order her second drink of the night… Teddy had questioned her. He had asked her if she had a drinking problem. Jinny quickly blew up in his face and left their table to go sit at a booth of her own. She was now starring at him. Starring at him hard. ‘Why had he brought up the drinking. Why must everyone bring it up?’ The questions raced through her mind. There were so many questions, and so few, if any, had been answered. She ran her hand across her forehead in exasperation. In the past week it seemed everyone in the division, along with her father and brothers, had confronted her with her drinking. “Even ole Cap had a few choice words,” Jinny sneered to herself. The thing that was frightening her though was that everyone seemed sincere in their concern. ‘Even him’, she said as she looked back over at Teddy who sat at his table studying her every move. She placed her hand over her mouth as a confused smile appeared across it. She didn’t know what, but there was something about Teddy… The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall You say it best when you say nothing at all Jinny thought back to the first time she had met him… She managed a small laugh, thinking of the scare she had given him—he had been so nervous. ‘Why did he come back though?’ she questioned herself… Just another one of those questions that had been bothering her... ‘Why would someone like him, want someone like her?’ She placed her hands over ears, hoping the voices inside her would go away and the questions would stop. She fingered the beer that was in front of her. ‘I can’t help it that I’m addicted, can I?’ The questions were beginning again. She looked at the picture that was hanging on the wall beside her… All day long I can hear people talking out loud But when you hold me near (you hold me near), You drown out the crowd (drown out the crowd) Try as they may, they can never define What’s being said between your heart and mine At least she had come to admit she was addicted. It had taken time though. She had stayed up many nights on the phone with Magda. They had argued, but in the end Magda had enabled Jinny to realize what she was doing to herself… She sighed thinking of Magda. ‘Mag’s a good friend,’ she thought to herself. ‘At least there’s someone in this world I can trust.’ She then heard someone cough from the other side of the room. She turned to see Teddy, still staring at her. Concern in his eyes. The nights she wasn’t talking to Magda, she had been with or talking to Teddy. They had talked about ‘light’ things. Jinny didn’t want to get into any emotional conversations with him, so she kept the subject comical. He’d always been there for her, however. ‘That’s what frightens me though,’ she thought to herself. ‘I’m not supposed to have a stable guy in my life. I never have before…why’s it happening now?’ Questions again. She didn’t know the answer to them. She did know people who could help her find the answers though... The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall You say it best (you say it best) when you say nothing at all She gave Teddy a small smile and then focused on the booth in front of her. Teddy had told her whenever she needed him he would be there. ‘And he’s here now’ Jinny thought. ‘But why?’ She starred even harder at the empty booth in front of her. Things were confusing. She had finally admitted to herself she needed help, but the questions were still there. ‘Just like tonight,’ she though. ‘Teddy questioned me about my drinking and I blew up at him in less time than it takes Cap to tell I’m drunk.’ Jinny sighed. Deep down she knew why all the questions were in her head. She knew the main question too, and tonight she was beginning to understand the answer… and it scared her. The smile on your face lets me know that you need me There's a truth in your eyes saying you'll never leave me The touch of your hand says you'll catch me wherever I fall You say it best (you say it best) when you say nothing at all ‘Am I needed?’ the most dangerous questioned popped into her mind. She used to think she wasn’t. She had partnered up with Magda however, and things had gotten better. Plus, tonight she had been starring across the room at Teddy for half an hour, and in that thirty minutes of silence and starring into her concerned-filled eyes she had gotten the answer to her main question. You say it best when you say nothing at all You say it best when you say nothing at all She watched as Teddy stood up from his chair and made his way over to the booth she was sitting at. He sat down beside her. She began to speak, but he quickly put his finger over her lips, motioning for her to be quiet. He settled into the booth and put his arm around her. They needed no words. Questions for both of them had been answered—in silence. That smile on your face The truth in your eyes The touch of your hands lets me know that you need me You say it best when you say nothing at all You say it best when you say nothing at all PLEASE REVIEW! |

This is GREAT!!! And i mean Really Great!
------------------ ˛Tiffany˛ Teddy: You all set for tomorrow night? Jinny: I have my bullet proof vest polished if that's what you mean. Teddy: Come on, Jinny. Jinny: Oh, yes. Actually... I bought a dress. Teddy: You did? Jinny: There is no guarantee, however, that I am going to wear it. Teddy: So, uh... I don't know. What else did you buy? Jinny: How do you know I bought you anything for your birthday? Maybe I plan on knitting you a sweater or... give you something much more organic. Teddy: Well, you do give good organic. Teddy: What's this dress look like anyway? Jinny: Oh, yeah, OK. Low cut, skin tight, animal print, ruffle at the bottom. Don't you have lawyering to do? Teddy: Be honest with me, not my parents! Jinny: All right, fine. You want honesty? Why don't you let me tell you a little bit about my family? See, I never really had a birthday party unless you wanna count my 15th, when my father showed up for cake, plastered in his underwear! Oh... yeah, by the way, my mom couldn't make it that year either because, well, sadly, six months earlier she blew her brains out!!!!! Teddy: Jinny, my God. Jinny: As for my brother, ugh... yeah, John... see, he just doesn't like you unless your American, white, and straight... and for me, a few weeks ago when I had that nut case after me... yeah, I had to make a little list, of all the guys that I've slept with in the last two years. I couldn't remember some of their names. Teddy: Stop. Jinny: Ya know what? This is who I am, this is my family!!!! Come on, it's your turn. Go ahead, flash that all-American, prep school, choir boy smile and you tell me that it doesn't matter! A day with Blair is like walking up San Juan Hill. Every time you turn around she's yelling CHARGE! ~Jo Polniaczek IM me using AOL: NancysBiggestFan |

The song is "When You Say Nothing At All."
There is three different versions to it, but I used the older version. I'm not sure who it's sung by, but I'll look it up and get back to ya ![]() Thanks for reviewing! ks [This message has been edited by ks (edited 06-20-2001).] |
