I was just wondering why when flipping through catalogs I sometimes see nostalgic kitsch from other tv shows (lunchboxes, dolls) and greeting cards in stores but never see anything GI related except for years ago when they had the dolls (I missed that boat) and a bit later with the dart cards and auto-
graphed photos, etc. Why is GI so popular and yet so absent in popular culture nostalgic artifacts for sale?

I don't know why exactly but I can tell you that all Gilligan projects are fraught with difficulty because of the different owners involved (Turner, Sherwood and the estate of Phil Silvers). That's why the movie's been in development hell for twenty years and counting.
With Brady it's a little easier because that's just Paramount and Sherwood.

I'm glad there isn't as many products-lol. It would be nice if there was, but it would be a lot harder to collect-lol

PHIL SILVERS??? The late comedian??? Did he own part of the show or something?

He certainly did.........and it made him a lot richer than Bilko did . Look at the end credits where it says Gladasya Productions. That was his production company.
And you thought he was just Harold Hecuba (oh wait, that's me).

I thought it's because there hasn't been anything new put out regarding GI. For example, when Munsters and Scooby Doo movies came out, you could see things like notebooks, matchbox cars, coloring books, games, etc. with their characters and pictures. Now you cannot anymore - it's been a few years.

I would guess that if a movie came out, you would see some new kitschy stuff out there.

Regarding the ownership difficulties, etc. Maybe it's just very red tapey, etc. No matter who the owners are, though, they would make money off of such uses of GI, so why would they be reluctant?

This all sparks a question in me that is related to this subject of GI "goods."
At first, I was impressed with what I saw as all the GI stuff out there, even if relegated to the rare status of collector's items and somewhat unattainable at times--board game, floating island, etc. Then, I noticed that there are such items for other sitcoms as well. I went Comcon, the great comics convention, this summer and noticed that there were even comic books based on some tv shows from the 60's but none on GI. So, my question for someone more expert at this stuff than I am is: does GI have more manufactured nostalgic goodies (toys, lunchboxes, games, dolls....) or actually less? And, even if it does have more, is it so different from the amount one can get (or read about) from other sitcoms? In other words, if more technically, is it really SO MUCH more? Does GI, in the area of goods,
stand out the way it does in the number of posts on Sitcoms Online?

Thanks. I'd really love an answer to this. I hope someone can help.
