It was a slight sticky evening. We had no fans, we had no light, as a matter of fact, it affected New York, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersy, and Conneticuit.
They said it started in Ohio...NE Ohio. Another Mistake-on-the-Lake? |

I remember. I was probably on SO lol, but I remember being on the computer and the lights going out really quick and then going back on. They didn't stay out at my house, but they did at my aunt's around the corner.

Wow, it doesn't seem like 5 years ago. I remember it was hot and sticky and utterly gross outside. It turned out to be one of the busiest days at work too. Let's hope it never happens again.

I remember that day really well too...I was working when the power went out and we were forced to work without A/C or lights. It really sucked! We ended up wheeling all of our refrigerated products (I work in a small, family-owned grocery store/deli) into the walk-in and closing early. I recall going home some time in the early evening (there were no traffic lights working either) and the power came back some time around 7:30, I believe. I was eating a hamburger in the dark when it suddenly came back on
![]() My experience didn't even compare to my best friend's, though. She was actually on her way to visit me from Ohio and had to maneuver on the George Washington Bridge and the LIE without any traffic lights Good thing she made it to my house in one piece! That was *quite* a day!

A Philly anchor was interviewing someone over the phone in NYC and asked-"what are you going to do if the Power is not on when it gets dark? The girl was like-"Um can't we not talk about right now and hope it doesn't come to that" LOL I was like-"why the hell did he ask her that dumb a$$ question like he wanted the power to stay off so it can be a bigger story like the blackout of 1977" |

Ugh, it was so sickening. It seemed like a million degrees outside and the house was even worse without the AC. To top it all off I had to have my senior pictures taken the next day. It was miserable.

I remember the Great Blackout five years. That was when I was in Charleston, SC and Savannah, Ga. I bet it was at least a million degrees inside their buildings and outside too withour air conditioning. Or, maybe a billion degrees without AC working. It was terrible.

I remember that day as well. My family was coming back from the mall in Syracuse and we heard it on the radio. The lights did not come back on until 1:00 in the morning. Thank God we have a pool!!!
