This was by far my favorite episode to date. I absolutely loved the shift of focus onto the family, with the B-storylines with the other 2 couples. I was actually entertained all hour, with missing the Opening Ceremonies. Loved how Laurie came out of her shell and stood up for herself in this episode - she had most of the lines in this episode, for the first time, and she's really a great actress, and she fits the role wonderfully.
One of my favorite parts about this show is how every character has their own little secrets. While the secrets are slowly coming out as the show progresses, there are still a lot of secrets to be shared. I'm glad Roger finally came out and told Trina about his feelings for Susan - I am so looking forward to him telling her in the next episode. That is honestly must-see TV by itself. And I loved Janet, admitting that she had feelings for Tom while telling him about it. By far, the best episode of the series, IMO. If by some chance CBS will pick it up for a second season, they should do most episode like this one - focusing mainly on the family and less on the swinging. It is called Swingtown, but I think more people would have liked the family aspect, and the swinging may have turned some people off. |

Was not liking Laurie at all in this episode. I'm a pretty firm believer of the old "not while you're still living under my roof parential philosophy". Even though she hugged her dad at the end I wasn't buying it. She couldn't miss one concert and couldn't stay a couple of days away from her boyfriend(is he really seven years older?). Also didn't like her not so subtle ways of telling her mom to dump her daddy. If Doug is her be all end all he could at least wait a year until she's legal. I'm almost hoping that she finds Doug in an orgy or at least with some other woman to see if she would still stick with the guy. In her own words she wouldn't.
The more I see Roger, the less I like him. He seems so ready to bail on his marriage. Bruce is often a tool and a horndog, but Susan/Roger relationship could be worse because they might actually be cheating emotionally on their spouses. BJ and Rick. Am I the only one that think that Rick might be in love with BJ. I know I could be completely out in left field on that one, but it's just a vibe I'm getting. I don't think Janet had any real feelings with Tom, but she sure liked the attention he gave her. Roger acts like Janet is his mother, but Tom knows how to treat her like a lady. Who'd think after ten episodes my favorite couple would be the swingers who seem more honest then the traditional couples and my favorite character is Janet who speaks her mind and has a good heart. If CBS wouldn't save Moonlight after all the uproar, I don't really see Swingtown having a chance of returning next season. I'm just hoping to see all the episodes from this season. |

Wow! That's pretty much exactly how I feel about the episode.
And when Laurie was on the phone for "over an hour" wouldn't her parents have been pissed about the long distance charges? I'm guessing the cabin was a ways away, right?

Well, I still loved the episode-LOL. I'm a parent, and I can understand Bruce wanting to spend some family time. I just love how Susan tends to be the calm, "we'll talk it out" parent. I would love to see Doug with another woman in one of the next 3 episodes, though - I think it would be the perfect storyline for their relationship.
And about B.J. and Rick, what you're saying is actually funny, because I was almost thinking the same thing. I get the same vibe, mainly because of the way they were on top of each other and ALONE at that cabin for awhile. That's probably very wrong of me to be saying, though

Ouch - it was worse than I thought. Just 2.82 million viewers watched last Friday's episode. That's even worse than I thought, and now I'm a bit worried. The Olympics pretty much just killed the show. Without them it would have done double. Hopefully next week it can rebound, because I don't see any hope if it gets ratings like that.
Maybe should they move the show again? My suggestion would maybe be Sunday nights at 9pm for the rest of the summer after Big Brother - that always gets the younger demo, and I'd bet it would do really good in that slot. But, there is only 3 eps left, so why bother now? |

^ Yeah it does seem doomed to be cancelled. I sure hate to see it happen too. Thought friday nights episode was great, was worried when Laurie hitched a ride but it turned out to be with a harmless old lady. I felt bad for Bruce trying to get the family to have some fun together when they didn't really seem too interested in it. And the part where Janet asks Tom to help her in the kitchen so she can quietly tell him she only wants them to be friends was pretty good. This show just keeps getting better.

I forgot about that old woman. She was hilarious - she didn't even know how many husbands she's had! I really think that made Laurie think twice about how serious her relationship was. The show really does keep getting better, with only 3 eps left.
Episode 11 will air Friday (Aug. 15). The following Friday (Aug. 22) will be preseason football I believe, which means the final 2 episodes will air August 29 and September 5. Hopefully ratings will pick up some. I just hope CBS thinks twice before cancelling it. |
