Default Sara Gilbert joins 'Big Bang' As Series Regular

Sara Gilbert joins 'Big Bang' as series regular
Will work with 'Roseanne' co-star Galecki again
By Nellie Andreeva

Aug 8, 2008, 07:50 PM ET
The "Roseanne" reunion on CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" is becoming permanent.

Sara Gilbert, who did a three-episode guest stint last season, has joined the Warner Bros. TV-produced series as a regular.

She will reprise her role as Leonard's (Johnny Galecki) brilliant colleague and on-and-off love interest Leslie Winkle.

This mirrors the storyline of Gilbert and Galecki's characters on "Roseanne," Darlene Connor and David Healy, who also had an on-again, off-again relationship until tying the knot in the penultimate season's finale.

Gilbert's role on the long-running ABC sitcom earned her two Emmy nominations.

I feel the same way. I like the Leslie character, but only in small doses. Making Sara a regular cast member might hurt the show a little bit. The show was fine just the way it was. There's no need to add anyone to the cast, IMO.

I like Sara, and would like to see her as a recurring character. However, I really don't think they needed another regular cast member. What makes the show great is the incredibly great chemistry among the five cast members. I really don't want to see any air time cut from the original five for a new character. With six cast members it is starting to get a little crowded now.

I completely agree. Her character was fine, but the show doesn't need a new regular. It's fine as it is.

I'm glad, much more interesting than the dumb blonde character.

I agree - this is a mistake. Leslie was great as a recurring character, but quite frankly, I mainly enjoyed her because it was Sara Gilbert. The character wasn't the greatest, anyways. I'm not sure how well this will turn out - hopefully it won't take any attention away from Penny.

That is just right. The show is centered around the four geek guys, and how they relate to Penny. That is the essence of the show. They need to keep that as the basic theme. I hope this does not create a distraction with another character in every show. As a recurring character Leslie is fine, but we don't need her in every show. I hope this does not change the great chemistry of the show.

No one can disagree they have fantastic chemistry. I'm one to say Roseanne was the best sitcom ever made. The problem is I guess that Leslie is one of those characters that you want in small doses. Maybe that'll change depending on the way Chuck and the writting staff bring her into the show.
