Default an interesting problem...need y'all's thoughts

it goes a little something like this.

i conducted a trade with someone who I don't think posts on any trading forum that I'm aware of. From his have list, I found 4 1/2 hours that I wanted. He wanted more than that from me, but since I only found 4 1/2 hours from his have list, we agreed on 4 1/2 hours. I asked if it was ok if I send him 4 1/2 hours out of the request list he sent me, and he said that was ok.

I sent my end first, along with a few bonus items. I got an e-mail from him this morning. He said that the dvd's arrived to him on Monday and that he sent my stuff out yesterday. He said that, while he was pleased with what I sent him, he noticed that not everything he wanted was on there. I said that I fulfilled my end of the obligation by sending 4 1/2 hours from the request list he gave me and that he agreed to that.

However, I think I understand his side of it at least somewhat because perhaps I should have given him a chance to select the 4 1/2 hours out of his request list that he wanted most.

so what do you think? Technically, I completed my end per our agreement, but should I have given him a chance to whittle down his own list?

thanks.

i think if there were some he wanted more than the others from the list he should have just said so
if not hes letting you choice what to send him
you fulfilled your part of the deal
looks fair from this end

Honestly, I probably would have asked him which was the most important to him. When I have done trades with people where I want more than they do, I usually say, "Hey, how about x & y from my list for a & b from your list, and perhaps we can do another trade later?" That way, they understand what my priority items are, and then everyone is happy!

Bottom line you're right, but I think you could have originally been more accomodating when setting up the trade. You seeked this guy out. You wanted 4 1/2 hours and you got 4 1/2 hours. Don't really see much of a compromise since you got what you wanted and the other guy wanted more. If he agreed to the deal that's his problem.

You sent first. You should have since you approached the trader in the first place. Somewhere there seems to have been some kind of misunderstanding as to what 4 1/2 hours was what. I think it's the other guys fault since I'm assuming he can add up to 4 1/2 and should have just listed what he expected for the even trade.

i don't think that you were unfair, he should have specified what he wanted in the deal - otherwise how could you know what he would want? at least you gave him some bonus items.

maybe you could take another look at his list and try to make another trade with him so he can get exactly what he wants?

pfft. newbs.

What if I squeezed 6 hours of recordings on one disc, would you still trade me for the same of amount of footage?

whether someone trades by the hour or by the disk, the important point is that both parties agree to it in advance.

you were in the right. he knew first hand he had to trim his list and he should have told you what he wanted more important upon agreement.
