Default Boy Meets World DVD SETS are finally Coming! Lionsgate has bought the rights!

Lionsgate has bought the rights to some of ABC'S most popular primetime shows of the past and present including BOY MEETS WORLD! New Season Sets are in the works!!!! The day has finally come! Two articles announce this! THIS HAS TO BE THE MOST HAPPY I'VE EVER BEEN FOR A DVD RELEASE. Other shows like 8 Simple Rules will also get new season sets as Buena Vista only released season 1!

I repeat, THIS IS NO JOKE! HOPEFULLY, its promoted correctly and the whole series gets released!!!!!!!!!! WE GOTTA SPREAD THE WORD ONCE WE GET OFFICIAL WORD OF THE RELEASE DATES!

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=14&cs=1

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_id=13270

The articles feature the same info...here it is!

Continuing its aggressive quest for content, Lionsgate has entered into an agreement with Disney-ABC Domestic Television to distribute to the home entertainment market a selection of prime-time series and library titles.

Season one sets of the sitcom "According to Jim" and the supernatural dramedy "Reaper" are first on the release agenda, coming to DVD on Oct. 21 and Nov. 4, respectively.

The deal is the third TV DVD distribution agreement Lionsgate has cut in the past month, coming on the heels of a first-look partnership with Comcast Entertainment Group that gives Lionsgate distribution rights to programs on E! Entertainment Television, The ****Network and G4. More recently Lionsgate acquired the home entertainment rights to Marvel Entertainment's animated series "Wolvering & The X-Men."

In addition to "According to Jim" and "Reaper," the Disney-ABC Domestic Television deal also includes popular sitcoms and dramas "Hope & Faith," "8 Simple Rules ... for Dating My Teenage Daughter," "Boy Meets World," "October Road," "Kevin Hill," "My Wife & Kids" and "Six Degrees," among others.

"As evidenced by our recent activity, we continue to look for key brands to expand and grow our TV DVD business," Schwartz said.

Since this is Lionsgate's third deal this month, I persume this is a great sign!

I'm not a big fan of Lionsgate past releases. ALF was syndicated episodes. So were many of the Saved by the Bell episodes. However, they're doing a good job with the 80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and I'm happy that any company is picking up Boy Meets World. It's also nice to know that the second season of 8 Simple Rules will be coming.

How are the Will & Grace sets? Did Lionsgate do a good job with that show?

I'm happy with the news, but I want to make sure the DVDs are done right.

At this point, I'm not sure if I'd worry about syndicated cuts. IDK...its been so long since I've seen it now that I probably wouldn't remember what was cut. I'm actually hoping they do what happened with the Cosby Show. I know the Cosby show isn't a lionsgate release, but for everytime 2 seasons were released the same day at a decent price of $20. I'd love commentaries by the cast as well but dont count on ANY special features. I just want my set completed.

For the most part. I believe some "super-sized" episodes might not be presented correctly, although I may be thinking of the Friends sets.

LIONSGATE® ANNOUNCES HOME ENTERTAINMENT DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH DISNEY-ABC DOMESTIC TELEVISION

First Series to Be Released On DVD Will Be ABC Studios’ “According To Jim: Season One” on October 21st and “Reaper: Season One” on November 4th; Agreement Also Includes Hit Series “8 Simple Rules…for Dating My Teenage Daughter”, “Boy Meets World”, “Hope & Faith”, and Much More

Announcement Comes On Heels of Lionsgate’s Distribution Deal With Comcast Entertainment Group and the Successful Release of “Mad Men: Season One” and “Weeds: Season Three” On DVD

LOS ANGELES, CA, SANTA MONICA, CA and VANCOUVER, BC (August 4, 2008) – LIONSGATE® (NYSE: LGF), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, and Disney-ABC Domestic Television have entered into an agreement where Lionsgate obtains the home entertainment distribution rights to select primetime series and library titles from ABC Studios. The announcement was made today by Ron Schwartz, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Lionsgate Home Entertainment. The deal was negotiated by Jason Constantine, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Eda Kowan, Lionsgate Vice President of Acquisitions and Wendy Jaffe, Lionsgate Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs, Acquisitions and Co-Productions.

The first programs to be released under the new agreement – popular sitcom “According to Jim: Season One”, starring Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith and one-hour series “Reaper: Season One” – will be available on DVD on October 21st and November 4th , respectively. The agreement also encompasses other popular sitcoms and dramas including “Hope & Faith” (Faith Ford, Kelly Ripa), “8 Simple Rules...for Dating My Teenage Daughter” (Katey Sagal, David Spade, John Ritter), “Boy Meets World” (Ben Savage, Rider Strong), “October Road” (Tom Berenger, Bryan Greenberg), “Kevin Hill” (Taye Diggs), “My Wife & Kids” (Damon Wayans), “Six Degrees” (Jay Hernandez, Bridget Moynahan, Erika Christensen), and more.

“As evidenced by our recent activity, we continue to look for key brands to expand and grow our TV on DVD business” Schwartz said. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to add these popular ABC Studios series to our library and look forward to releasing these highly recognizable, branded properties to their loyal audiences on DVD."

The deal comes on the heels of a very active period for Lionsgate in the TV On DVD category. In the past month, the company announced a first-look partnership with Comcast Entertainment Group wherein Lionsgate obtained the home entertainment distribution rights to popular series airing on E! Entertainment Television, The Style Network and G4 including the tanning salon reality series “Sunset Tan” along with the popular “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood,” and “Kimora: Life In The Fab Lane.” Additionally, the studio is expecting its biggest year ever in the TV on DVD category anchored by the recent releases of the third season “Weeds”, the first season of the Golden Globes and Peabody award-winning AMC series “Mad Men” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne: Volume 2”.

A leader in the TV on DVD category, Lionsgate has bucked the industry trend by experiencing double-digit growth from 2006 to 2007. The studio’s DVD releases of the first and second seasons of “Weeds” both finished the year in the Top 40 among all TV on DVD releases. Other prestigious titles in the Lionsgate TV on DVD catalog include “Will & Grace”, “The Dead Zone”, “Moonlighting”, and much more.

Friends is distributed by Warner Brothers Home Video, not Lionsgate.

This is good news! Does this also mean that it can start being syndicated channels again like ABC Family or any other channels that are interested?

Referring to the blog, I can't believe Warner Bros. hasn't realeased Family Matters or Step by Step yet. I would defenitely buy those, especially SBS.

VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS!!!! I've been waiting for someone to buy this show for a long time now. Hopefully Lionsgate can produce similar sets to the first 3 - consistent packaging is a pet peave of mine. Lionsgate is great at including special features on their sets, so I'm predicting quite a lot of them for both BMW and 8SR.

I don't think we have to worry about syndicated cuts, only because the episodes are ABC material, and they were provided completely unedited on the first 3 seasons. I'm also hoping they're much cheaper than the BV sets - $20 is much better than $40.

Very happy about this, it still airs on the Family Channel here in Canada but at very awkward and random times, so DVD releases of the rest of the series would be great

I think Boy Meets World home entertainment license was expiring back then or something. I don't think the TV rights were affected...it just so happened I think ABC Family/Disney Channel's contract expired at the same time.

Well, then I simply find it very strange that no channels would want to air this show.

I expect the-N will acquire it at some point in the future.

Referring to a post above, since I live in Canada, Family Channel is very strange. They don't air commercials which is great, but then the shows start at weird times and BMW only airs at like 2:09 AM each morning or something like that lol.
