In June 2008, Public Broadcasting Service announced that it intends to soon change the way Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the beloved children’s television program, is distributed to member stations. PBS will cease transmitting the program as part of their daily syndicated lineup beginning in September. Instead, PBS will provide member stations with a single Neighborhood episode on weekends. This unfortunate decision essentially silences the special nurturing voice of Mister Rogers in the daily lives of today’s children. Local public television stations, who make the final decisions about which programs to offer and when to air them, can still opt to broadcast Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood each weekday, but they are much less likely to do so without the program being included in PBS’s syndicated feed. ======== I can't believe PBS would so dramatically reduce the airings (once a week) of such a quality children's show. Especially with more crap than ever being targeted at kids, Mr. Rogers was what a children's TV show SHOULD be - and it's shameful PBS would pull it. |

That's terrible!!!
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood is timeless - the man may be gone but I think his messages should still be heard by the younger generations. Do you think anyone will ever put the show on DVD or maybe a cable network like Noggin will pick it up?

wow. that is so surprising because pbs used to show his show all the time. very sad to hear as well. mr. rogers is an important figure in children's lives & it's a shame they're not showing him as much. the younger kids who don't go to school during the week will be missing out.

That's crap. Mr. Rogers was one of the few reasons I ever even watched PBS. He's legendary.

Wow! That's a shame that PBS would do that to such a great show. Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was always there for me when I was a little kid and gave me great comfort during many tough times.

Wow... I can't imagine TV without Mr. Rogers soothing tone and important life lessons... How long before PBS goes from one show a week to none at all?

and sad, too, that a generation will grow up not knowing his warmth. Like a generation has already missed out on Captain Kangaroo! |

I remember when i was in grade school, the teacher would roll this huge TV into our classroom and let us watch Mr. Rodgers. I loved it! I'm sure the kids these days would love to get the chance to do the samething.

I'm still hoping that they would replay 'The Electric Company' The original 'Zoom', Classic 'Sesame Street', with 'Mr. Rogers'.
Looks like Mr. Rogers is spinning in his grave. I wonder what will happen when "The Lawrence Welk Show" is off of PBS? (I can see it now, all these blue-hairs with torches saying "Give us Lawrence Welk"!) |

It would be like the pilot episode of WKRP where all the old people were protesting the format change. "We demand an on-air apology to Lawrence Welk!" ![]() Speaking of old PBS shows, I'd also like to see The Letter People and 3-2-1 Contact again. The classics are just gathering dust!!!

This is terrible news! I cannot believe that PBS would choose to do something like that! Mr. Rogers is classic TV!

I have to think this is some sort of bizarre publicity stunt. There is no way PBS does not realize that this will cause a backlash.
