This morning I watched IDOJ on WGN. I was surprised they used the original black and white episodes from season one instead of the colorized version.

...in black & white, but it's a different "edit" from the ones previously seen on "Nick At Nite" (1994-'97), and "TV Land" (1998-2004). Some of the opening sequences are missing {as in "Anybody Here Seen Jeannie?"}, and the "recap" title in episodes 2 through 8 are omitted, replaced by the "standard" first season title [as was the case on "Nick At Nite"]. Still, I'm surprised it's being seen in black & white at all; I remember WPIX-TV, Channel 11 in New York, who scheduled "JEANNIE" from 1970 through '83, showed the "colorized" version of the pilot episode when they celebrated their 60th anniversary one Saturday in June; apparently, that was SONY's choice, not the station's. Anyway, "JEANNIE" is now scheduled weekdays on WGN at 8:30am, Central/9:30am Eastern {6:30am Pacific}, in addition to Sundays at 11pm(ct)/12am(et)/9pm(pt). Got that?

Yes, they're definitely different edits! In "Guess What Happened on the Way to the Moon", they cut the whole conference room scene where the astronauts are told where they're going on the survival mission. (One of my favorite lines, "Save the chocolate rocks for me," was deleted because of this.)
Then Monday I went to watch episode 6, "The Yacht Murder Case," only to find that they'd skipped it completely. I emailed WGN America. They have replied to let me know that ep 6 will run out of order on Friday - it was a matter of getting a bad tape from the distributor. |

....is currently showing the beginning of the fourth season on weekdays, and the end of it next weekend {during "Sunday Night Retro Night"}; apparently, they started showing the middle of the third season, on Sundays nights, late this summer. They used to show an episode on Saturday afternoons (following the daily schedule), but now they're "skipping" two episodes during weekends, so there's a gap the following Monday. Hopefully, when they begin showing back-to-back epsiodes every weekday, there'll be no further "missing episodes".

UGH. This is terrible news for me. I used to be able to watch about 15 minutes of the show before I left for work. Now it will be on from 1pm to 2 pm, which means I am at work and knee-deep in classes. (We don't have WGN on school cable anyway, for the few classrooms that are wired for cable.) Thank goodness for DVD's! |
