Default First season Urkel teasers

Here's something that's been on my mind. I've noticed that for syndication (and on ABC Family) there are four episodes that have teasers featuring Steve Urkel. I read that this was done to make it look like Urkel was there from the start. However, my question is 'where did these scenes come from originally?' They couldn't have been shown when these episodes originally aired because Urkel wasn't on the show at that point. Were they deleted scenes from later episodes? If anybody has any info on this let me know.

From "Raising Dad" a short lived sitcom with Bob Saget of "Full House" fame.

From my understanding, the scenes were obviously not in the episodes when they originally aired on ABC. But since Jaleel was added to the cast at the start of season 2, they wanted it to appear to viewers that he was part of the cast from the start of the show, so they taped those seasons sometime during the second season, and added them in when the show went into sydication. They probably did this just so casual viewers wouldn't get confused.

Kind of like I was confused about the Tags scens with Chrissy from Three's Company-lol But I really don't know why they had to make it seem like he was there from the start. I'm confused by that a little.

I dont think they were taped in the 2nd season. They all look like they did in the first season.

Didn't Jaleel joined the cast in the middle of the first season???

I think it is incredibly moronic when ABC and apparently other networks add teasers with Urkel to the first 11 eps before he was introduced. He was only missing from 11 eps. He was pretty much there from the start anyways.

They do it so as not to confuse the viewers? What??? Yeah, I can really see someone tune in to this show and see Urkel in a Season 2 or 3 ep and then watch one of the first few eps from Season 1 and then panic because Steve Urkel was not in it.

You know what will really confuse the viewers? Showing the first 11 eps with Urkel in the teasers and then airing Episode 12 from Season 1 where no one in the family seems to RECOGNIZE Steve Urkel.

Damn these networks piss me off. True fans of these classic sitcoms like us here on these boards should be in charge of programming. If we were in charge then there would be no misplaced teasers, no awkaward cuts to commercial, no scenes cut out for time and for goodness sake NO AIRING OUT OF ORDER!

Sorry, lost my temper for a bit there. Yeah, FM is great on N@N, eh?

I guess I see what you mean. It is a little strange that the family knows Urkel early on. Then they're introduced to him in season 12, sort of like Scooter appearing on early episodes of 'The Muppet Show,' but not actually being introduced until episode 6. I guess those teasers aren't really necessary. If a viewer is new to the show, they should realize that Urkel came later on. Then again, there are people who mainly watch the show to see Urkel, so I can see it from both points of view. I'd write more, but I have to get to work now.

To try not to confuse us! Well that makes sense as their little tricks have made us even more confused lol.

I just wish things would never be changed. Channels should just always air the original cuts, unedited and air commercials where the commercials are supposed to go, not chop it all up and make a totally different show.

This just popped into my head so I'm going to say it, who else is pissed that TBS is butchering (is that a word?) so many theme songs! SBTB no more has words and last about 10 sec, Fresh Prince is the same, that is so annoying to me. Especially, when looking at these shows on other channels the themes are intact. TV deals should say something about not screwing with the shows. I realize that doesn't apply with the urkel thing with the teasers

Come on, the Fresh Prince Theme Song is like 3 min and I'm glad TBS chopped it down.

I'm not, it has the best theme song. It doesn't need to be .20 seconds long. It doesn't even have the words, it's the worst. TBS cuts so much out too, worst TV station for syndication. Don't get me wrong- I'm glad they air what they air- but the constant editing and messing shows up is uncalled for in my opinion.

Once again, I'm grateful I live in Sweden. We have no weird editings here in Europe. We always get to see the whole episodes, uncut and unabridged.
