Default Those Great Kodak Camera Commercials

While enjoying some Ozzie and Harriet episodes over the weekend, it was great to view some of the Kodak Camera Commercials. I like the commercial for the small movie camera that Harriet carries in her purse and is always borrowed by Ozzie. At the end of the commercials, there is always a voice that tells the viewer the camera could be purchased for a small down payment. Wow, that seems like an eternity ago where people could visit a camera store and make a down payment on a camera.

I'm really telling my age because I can remember the "small down payment" on many items.

And remember, you don't need a special camera to take color pictures. Just put the Kodak color film in the camera you already have.

I love the irony. Back then having Color photos was a novelty, they were probably mainly used for special occasions. Now black and white photos are a novelty, and it's artistic style mainly used for special occasions.

The Kodak commercials are great. But I remember on one O & H ep they had a commercial about the Poloroid Swinger...only $19.99 and it makes INSTANT color shots which was a big deal in the 60s. I know the commercial was from a 60s ep - I think from '64.

I picked up on the ''Swinger'' camera commercial, too. I actually got that camera for Christmas one year, most likely in 1965 or 1966. I know my baby brother's first Christmas pictures were from my camera and he was born in Oct of 1966. Mine only made b&w pictures, though.

Ali MacGraw is in the commercial, a few years before ''Love Story''.

I even remembered the catchy little jingle, too, LOL.

''Meet the Swinger, Polaroid Swinger. Meet the Swinger, Polaroid Swinger . . .''

It's more than a camera, it's almost alive, it's only 19 dollars and 95.

Boy am I showing my age. LOL

Well, if you are showing your age, then I am in good company.

After I posted that I went looking for info on the camera. Seems like it was very popular with the young generation. Perhaps, that commercial had alot to do with it.

Here is a link where you can view the commercial:

I owned one of those! I still have a picture I took with it and it's very blurry.

Well I remember the commercial too, so....I'm showing my age. While I'm no spring chicken, I was only 9 or 10 when the orig. commercial aired...so when you do the math....I'm in my early 50s.

We actually had a Kodak Brownie when I was a kid. My older brother found it in my dad's misc. collection and asked if he could use it. Amazingly at the time, film was still being made for it!! it was different to use the viewfinder on the top and hold the camera at almost waist level to take a picture.

My dad used a Kodak Brownie like that too, holding it near waist-level. We later also had a Polaroid Swinger, which produced little b & w prints.

Currently the local "My Network TV" channel airs Ozzie doing an old Kodak slide camera commercial. Here is his dialouge, going by memory (I've seen this several times):

"Say, do you know what this is? It's a Kodak 35-millimeter color slide. Not very big, is it? Just... [size in inches]. Yet when you project it on a home screen, you get pictures as big as life."

Moving on about the camera, Oz says: "It has a photoelectric light meter that tells you how much light there is, or isn't."

Story has it that sponsor Kodak wanted Oz to wear a camera around his neck during episodes. That didn't fly, though, in their agreement...!

I saw a Kodak commercial Ozzie did in one of the episodes on the Mill Creek 100 dvd, Ozzie is talking about it being the perfect wedding present. The commercial then takes us to Niagara Falls and a couple on their honeymoon.

I particularly liked that one because I live about 15 minutes from the Falls itself.

Guess it wouldn't take the Kodak people to much to think of the Falls as a location. Kodak's headquarters is located in Rochester, New York. That's about 1 or so away from Niagara Falls.
