Do Not Expect Fantastic Four Sequels

I had a chance to sit with the director and cast of Summit Entertainment’s upcoming film, Push as part of our Comic-Con coverage. One of the films stars is Chris Evans, which you might remember from Fantastic Four as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

Chris was very excited about Push, and said that he is really looking forward to seeing how audiences receive the film. When asked about any upcoming projects, he apprehensively stated that nothing big was on his horizon. I wouldn’t call that a bad thing, the young actor said that he didn’t want to jump into any bad roles just to get work before the impending strike. He made a wise statement by saying that it is the roles that you don’t take, that makes or breaks your career.

When asked about the future of the Fantastic Four franchise, Evans said he thinks the prospect for a sequel is “dead in the water.” I find this surprising considering the fact that the Fantastic Four films weren’t well received critically, but the films drove some major box office numbers. Maybe it is because the story arc for Fantastic Four is done or maybe it is because Marvel is more interested in their spinoff, Silver Surfer.
