Thinking Of You...
(((Jinny and Teddy's apartment.))) (She is brushing her hair in the mirror. Teddy comes up behind her and kisses her kneck.)
J: Hey! We're supposed to keep this clearly professional!
T: But I just can't help getting naughty thoughts.
J: (giggles.) Cool it , Mr. ADA. (pause.) No, don't. Kate won't kill me if I'm late ONE more time... I'll be right there.
T: Don't take too long. (He leaves. Jinny smiles into the mirror
and follows Teddy.) (((Station.))) (Angela and C.D. are talking in hushed voices. When Magda comes in, they stop.) M: I come in and they stop talking. That means, you're talking about me or your fighting. So, go ahead, fight.
A: Is Jinny out there?
M: No... she mentioned something about a doctor's appointment or something...
C: Why would she need a doctor?
A: I don't know why. Maybe because she's sick? She IS human... I think...
M: Well... I'm gonna go call her and if she's not there and Teddy isn't
there, I'll call him at the DA's office. (((Kate's Office))) (The phone rings. Kate answers it.)
K: Hello? Exstead, you're late again. Okay... do you have an excuse? The doctor's? OH, my gosh! No, I won't tell them. I'll let you. Thanks for calling. 'Bye. (SHe hangs up, just as Magda comes through the door.) M: What's up, Cap? Can I use the phone? K: (dazed.) Yeah... Go ahead... M: I'm gonna call Jinn. (dials.) What's wrong? K: Uh... nothing... Uh, go ahead and use the phone. I have to meet Amanda for lunch. (she picks up
her coat and walks out the door.) (((DA's office.))) (The phone rings. The sectary answers it.) Sec.: Hello? Yes, he is. Could you hang on just a second? (puts phone down and calls Teddy into the room.) Theodore? You have a phone call. (Teddy takes the call in his office.)
T: Hello?
M: Teddy! Where's Jinny?
T: Doctor's. Why?
M: That's what I'm asking. Why is she there and not here?
T: Look... Magda... I'm meeting Jinn for lunch in half an hour. Why don't you come along?
M: No, thank you, Theodore. I already have plans. Tell Jinny to call me when she gets the chance, all right?
T: Okay. Thanks, Mag. See you.
M: 'Bye. (hangs up.) There's something fishy going on around here.
(((Restuarant that Magda, C.D., Angela, and Kate are eating at.))) (Kate comes in and sits at the table.)
K: Hello.
M: I thought you were eating with Amanda.
K: Well, I was going to, but she had things to do. So, here I am!
C: You certainly are.
A: Has anyone heard from Jinny?
M: I called Theodore and he said that he was meeting her for lunch and he invited me to come.
A: Why didn't you? You could solve this mystery.
M: I didn't want to impose.
C: You know, she's changed since she started living with Teddy.
A: Yeah... she's like a different person.
M: I wonder if it's because she's not quite fulfilling her dream night.
A: And what would that be?
M: (laughs.) You don't want to know. (all except Kate laugh.)
K: Hey, don't laugh at it. She's goin' through a lot right now. I mean, her brother just told her he was gay, her dad... I don't even know about and... Just give her a break, all right?
A: Captain, lighten up! I enjoy Jinny. She's really nice. M: Yeah. She's my best friend.
C: Yeah, we wouldn't intentionally make fun of her.
K: Well, don't make fun of her at all. (pushes chair from table and leaves.)
M: My gosh... Something is DEFINATELY up. (((Station))) (Jinny comes in and gingerly sits down in her chair.)
M: Hey, Jinn.
J: (Staring at a picture of Teddy, with her chin in her hands.) Hi... (sighs.)
M: Jinny, can I as you a question?
J: I guess... (sighs.) Teddy Bear's, cute isn't he? M: Yeah... whatever... What has gotten into you lately? Y- you have mood swings. You perky one minute and totally depressed the next! What is with you?
J: If I tell you, will you swear not to tell anyone? (Magda nods.) Let's
go in the bathroom. (She pulls Magda into the bathroom.) (((Bathroom))) (After making an investigation and finding no one in the stalls, Magda locks the door and crosses her arms.)
M: Go ahead. Tell me.
J: Magda... I'm... pregnant.
M: Wow... uh... wasn't expecting that one! When... I mean, how far along are you? And does Theodore know?
J: About a month and yes. I told him at lunch. Magda you swore not to tell anyone.
M: Have you told anyone else?
J: Kate... She was the first one that I told... I have NO idea why...
M: Well... I gotta go find Peter... We're gonna do somethin'... See ya.
(She fumbles with the door lock and leaves. Jinny sighs.) (((Jinny and
Teddy's apartment--midnight))) (Teddy comes in and looks at Jinny, who is sleeping on the couch with a book open in front of her. He laughs and covers her up with a quilt spread over the back of the couch. Her eyes flicker open.)
J: Teddy Bear? Is that you?
T: It is, Jinn. Go back to sleep.
J: Will you stay with me?
T: Yes. For now and for always.
(End of Chapter 1)
Chapter 2
(((Station))) (Jinny enters carrying a paper bag. She sits down at her desk.)
M: What do you have in there, Jinn?
J: (Pulls out a can of oysters, a can opener, and a carton of chocolate ice cream.) Provisions. (Opens the carton of ice cream, pulls out a spoon and starts to eat it, right out of the carton.) Oh, I'm sorry! (Holds the carton out to Magda.) Would you like some? I've got more!
M: (shakes head.) No thanks.
C: Hey, Jinn. What's with the oysters and ice cream? I thought Kate's rule was no food at work. I'll have to report you. (Kate come out of her office.)
K: Save you breath, C.D. Magda, you and Peter have a case. Bye. (Turns to go into her office, but Magda stops her.) Yes?
M: Uh... can we converse in your office? K: (pushes open door.) Go. (They walk into the office.) What's up?
M: I, uh, don't think that I should work with Peter anymore. Because his wife just... I know no one gets special treatment unless it's best for The Division, but, I think this would be one of the best changes. Please?
K: You won. Uh... get Jinny to work with you.
M: Wait, she's--
K: Pregnant? I know. She told me. Go ahead. I think this case is one she's going to have a particular interest in. M: Okay... (she leaves.)
J: Hey! (She has finished the first carton of ice cream and has started on the second.) What's up?
M: We got a case. Let's go. (She starts out the door motioning for Jinny
to follow her. Jinny nods, gets up, and grabs her bag.) (((Some
street)))
J: Uh... Madonna. You?
M: What was the question?
J: (laughs.) Who was your role model as a child?
M: You'll laugh.
J: No I won't! Come on!
M: Okay... You really wanna know?
J: Yes!!!!
M: My aunt, Dulcinea.
J: (cracks up.) The one that wieghs like a metric ton now?
M: I told you you'd laugh! She wasn't always that fat.
J: Are you sure?
M: Hey, look! There's Teddy! (Points to Teddy's car that is parked across the street from them.)
J: Are you sure that's him?
M: There's only one way to find out! (Honks the car horn and Teddy turns and waves to them. He eventually get out of his car and walks over to Jinny's car door.)
T: Hello, dear. (kisses her.)
J: Hey! No flattering me!
M: Hey! No romaticising at work!
J: Teddy! What are you doing here?
T: Well... I'm on a stakeout.
J: Really? Who are you staking out? If you say me, I'm going to lay you out.
T: You.
J: That's all. (She playfully hits him on the shoulder.)
T: Ouch! You're tough for a girl!
J: (sweetly) Shut up.
T: Well... I'm just gonna go. (Jinny grins her 'Jinny' smile and Magda just kind of half-smiles as Teddy gets into his car and drives off.)
J: What's with him?
M: He's under a lot of stress right now. It's not his fault.
J: Well... I need some more ice cream. Do you mind stopping by
the store? (((Later that night.))) (Magda has come over to Jinny and Teddy's apartment while Jinny went to family poker night.) M: Teddy? I'm here! T: Mag... You look... beautiful. M: Thank you. So do you! I mean... sorry. T: No, don't apoligize. Shall we eat? M: Sure, sure. T: I don't know what kind of liquor you like, so I just bought the kind that Jinny likes. I hope you don't mind.
M: No, no. Jinny taught me everything I know about liquor! I'm sure whatever you got will... (Her voice fades off and Teddy motions for her to set down. She sits.)
T: Well, let's get started!
M: I think that would be good. (Teddy sits and they eat in silence for a few minutes. Teddy stands up and retrieves a bottle of lotion from the bathroom.)
T: Uh... Excuse me if I'm being a little too straightforward but, can I offer you a massage? Jinny always likes them so... M: (laughs a little.) Sure. Go ahead. (He starts to rub her shoulders, but it soon goes farther. We see Teddy leading Magda to the bedroom then it fades to Jinny's dad's house.)
J: Dad... Casey... I have something to tell you.
Jinny's dad: Are you gay, too?
J: No. Just the opposite. Dad, Casey, I'm pregnant.
John: Well... that's to be expected.
J: What's that supposed to mean?
Jo: Just like what I said last month, you're still the town slut!
J: Look, I may be a girl. And I may be pregnant, but I can still kick you a*s if I have to. Is that clear? Jo: (laughs.) I'd like to see you try it!
J: (Glares.) I'm leaving now. I'm going home to be with the one person in this world who cares about me and loves me! Do you know who that is? Casey: Jinny... JD: No, let her go! Jinny, how can we know who it is if you never introduce who you're dating? Jo: (Under breath.) Or sleeping with.
J: (To her dad.) Are you gonna say... anything?
JD: (Gets up and walks to Jinny.) I'm tired...
J: You used that one last month! (Scoffs.)
Ca: I'm happy for you, Jinn.
J: Thanks, kid.
(((Jinny's car.))) (She has a bottle of beer open and is just sitting in front of her dad's house drinking it inbetween sobs. Peter knocks on the window.)
P: Jinny? Is that you?
J: (Wipes away tears and opens the door.) Yeah, it is.
P: Can I come in? (Jinny nods and Peter climbs into the car.) What are you doin'?
J: Reading the newspaper, what does it looks like I'm doing?
P: Well... to me, it looks like you're wallowing in your self pity and trying to drown it in alcohol.
J: (Chuckles.) You know me too well.
P: Can I drive you home? Leave your car here. You're in no condition to drive.
J: Sure. But could you stop by the store? I need more beer?
P: No prob. (They get into Peter's car.) (((Station the next
morning.)))
(Teddy comes up to Magda and she sighs and walks away.) T: Magda... What's wrong? I thought last night... it might lead to something!
M: Teddy, we were both drunk... It's not gonna lead to anything.
T: Okay... Are you sure?
M: Stick with Jinny. She can give you more than I ever could.
T: Okay... See you around.
M: Bye. (Without Teddy seeing, Magda quickly wipes away a tear that rolls down her cheek.) (End Of Chapter 2)
Chapter 3
T: Jinny! Where were you last night? I waited up for hours!
J: Well... I knew that you had that big case to work on, so I slept over at my dad's. (Peter is giving Jinny strange looks.) Didn't I, Peter?
T: What does Peter have to do with this? J: He drove me to the store. I had run out of beer. (She is shooting looks that could kill to Peter.)
T: Jinny, you know what could happen--
J: Could we talk about this tonight, please? I'm kind of busy!
T: Sure... See you...
J: 'Bye. (Magda comes over to Jinny and puts her arm around Jinny's shoulder.)
M: Jinn, can I buy you lunch? We have to talk.
J: Yeah... we do. (((Anchorside))) (Jinny is sipping Coke, because Magda wouldn't let her order a silver patron.) M,J: So, what did you want to talk about? M.J: You first.
M: Okay, I'll go first. Jinny, last night, Teddy wasn't working on a case. We had dinner, he gave me a massage, and things went from there. I'm sorry.
J: Well... Now for my news! Last night, I didn't stay at my dad's.
M: Why not?
J: We had another big fight, and I left. M: Where did you go?
J: Peter let me stay at his place.
M: What exactly happened last night between you and Peter?
J: Well... we got drunk, we kissed, and that's it. I'm sorry.
M: And you think I'M bad for sleeping with Peter!
J: Magda, I spent the night at his house, not in his bed! I would NEVER do that to Teddy!
M: Well, Teddy would do that to you.
J: That one hurt, Mag. It really hurt. (She gets up and walks out, with Magda following her.)
M: Wait! How are you gonna get back to work? I brought you!
J: I'll walk!
M: You're in no condition to walk!
J: I'm never in the right 'condition' am I?
M: I didn't say that, Jinn!
J: No, but you HINTED it! That's worse that saying it! I'm gonna go talk to Teddy! (She starts down the road.)
M: Wait! At least let me drive you home! Please?
J: Okay. (((Later that night at Jinny and Teddy's apartment)))
J: Teddy, we have to talk. (Teddy walks over to Jinny.)
T: What?
J: Teddy, I know what happened last night.
T: You hate me now, right?
J: No! Because I did the same thing! Well, not really. Pretty close though. Can you forgive me?
T: Maybe we should take things just a LITTLE slower.
J: Yeah.
T: Are you hungry?
J: Yeah.
T: You wanna go out and eat?
J: Yeah!
T: Let's go!
J: Where?
T: Where ever you want!
J: Can we go someplace that has oysters for hor devours and chocolate ice cream for dessert?
T: If we can find one! Oh, you want Magda to go?
J: No, I think she has a prior engagement. Spending time with her child.
T: Okay! Let's go! (((Ben's room.))) (He is sleeping when Magda sticks her head in the door to check on him. Se walks over to his bed, climbs in, tucks the blanket under her chin, and whispers only 4 words.)
M: I love you, Papi.
