This is another "Crossover Battle" between Welcome Back Kotter and Head of the Class. Here's a little background on each show for you:
SWEATHOGS: Inner city kids in a remeidial learning class are taught more than just their lessons by Abe Kotter, a teacher who grew up in the same neighborhood and promised to come back some day and make a difference. FILLMOORE HIGH HONOR STUDENTS: "The Smart Kids" of Fillmoore High, given special priveleges by the principal because of their accedemic achievements which bring honor and prestige to their school. Substitute teacher Charlie Moore tries to show these kids that there's more to life than just facts and figures, and helps them to prepare for "real life". With all that said, the scenario is rather simple; a television quiz show that pits students from one school against students from another school for a chance at fabulous prizes offers $100,000 to any school that can beat the current champions (who just so happen to be the Fillmoore High Honors Students). Mr. Kotter hwears of the challenge, and enters the sweathogs into the drawing as a joke. But things backfire when they find out that the sweathogs are the only people who where foolhardy enough to enter the competition! And to make matters worse, the application that Mr. Kotter filled out to enter the sweathogs also had a legal disclaimer on it stating that any school that backed out of their television appearance would owe $50,000 as a penalty! Forced in to going on the quiz show, the sweathogs spend the next week studying like mad, 24 hours a day! Meanwhile, Charlie Moore is trying to convince his students that the quiz show is no big thing, and they should all just go to the big school dance that is also taking place the same night as the quiz show. Most of the students would like to go, but the principal tells them that anyone who does not show up for the quiz show will be expelled! So there is the situation... both groups are forced to compete... the determined underdogs versus the uninterested champions. Who will reign supreme? How will this very special crossover episode end? And most importantly, which characters will learn a very valuable lesson? ------------------ Be sure to click here and check out my web page! What else are you gonna do? |

How can you not have seen the best show ever, "Head of the Class"?! Of course the students of Fillmore would win! Half of one IHP student is smarter than all the Sweathogs combined!!!!!

Ahh, but you have to think like a sit-com... you always have to remember that by the end of the show, *someone* had better have learned an important lesson! If the Fillmoore kids win it, then no one learns anything; the smart kids win, the dumb kids keep on being dumb. Arvid never gets laid, and Horshack turns to a life of crime. What good would that do us? No, the more I think about this, the more I have to say that the Sweathogs *must* win. They would study their butts off for Mr. Kotter, while the Fillmoore students would be to concerned with missing the dance. So the kids get together and hatch a plan; the Fillmoore team throws the match so they can all get out of there early, and they can all go to the dance! But at the last minute, the principal of Fillmoore High would find out about the plan, and make the kids actually play in the quiz. But the sweathogs don't know this! So they go in to the quiz thinking that Fillmoore will lose on purpose, but they end up actually knowing the answers (becuase they studied so hard), and pull off the upset win!

I guess you would be right, but it's hard for me to admit that my favorite students could lose on anything!

Ahh, but in a greater sense, they have actually *won*. Don't you see? To them, it was just another quiz show that they knew they would win. I mean, you can only win so many of these things till it's redundant... okay, you're *smart*... we *get* it! Let's move on!
And a victory over a group such as the sweathogs would have meant *less* than nothing to them... have you ever played chess against a 3-year-old? DO you really feel "victorious" when you beat someone who had no chance of winning in the first place? But in this situation, the Fillmoore High kids truly won... they won a little self respect, and they won a little freedom. |
