Thumbs up The Lucy Show- A Release In 2009

Thanks to rjt100 for this scoop!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CBS/Paramount to release "The Lucy Show" in early 2009. I was left a message from Ken Ross head of CBS/Paramount Home Entertainment and he assure me that "The Lucy Show" would be a great follow-up to "I Love Lucy." There has been a delay due to the public domain episodes (30 to be exact), music cost and restoration cost, but we can see a release in early 2009. I do hope they release the series in season sets. I can't wait! "The Lucy Show" is a classic series that gets overlooked a lot because of the popularity of "I Love Lucy."

My only concern is that CBS/Paramount has a reputation for "butchering" series it releases on DVD. Let's hope they don't do it with "The Lucy Show".

Which shows?

I own I Love Lucy and The Brady Bunch, both complete--no butchering in these shows.

CBS/Paramount started out with great releases than fell apart and started editing out anything with a line of a song, etc.....Gomer Pyle, The Odd Couple, Happy Days 2 & 3 are full of edits plus many more hour drama releases were a mess.

Not to mention The Fugitive, Cheers, Laverne & Shirley and Bosom Buddies.

I have Bosom Buddies season 1--I think I read some songs were cut out, but it doesn't bug me that much.

I just have L&S season 1--anything cut?

With Laverne & Shirley, I don't know if anything's cut out, other than the music edits beginning with season two.

As for Bosom Buddies, besides all the music edits, I've also heard that a couple scenes have been cut out. One involving the two guys in jail singing Yakety Yak with their jailmates.

I thought I read on another site that season 1 of "THE FUGITIVE" is uncut-you mean it's not?

I know that with season 2, they replaced ALL-not some, butALL-of the background music; and a LOT of people are mad as HELL at them!!!!

Hi everyone...

"The Lucy Show" Season 1 is finally going to be getting an official release. Unfortunately, some of the music is going to be replaced just like "The Fugitive" and "Father Knows Best." For anyone who has any appreciation for classic television, please take a moment to politely share your feelings about this desecration of our television heritage by writing to CBS/Paramount. This general practice largely by CBS/Paramount and not as frequent for many of the other studios will not only affect "The Lucy Show" but all future vintage shows released by CBS/Paramount.

More information can be found at www.TheLucyShowDVD.com

It's not too late to make a difference as the "The Lucy Show" DVD set is slated for a release in late Spring of 2009. Thank you for your time and for writing in. Together we can make an impact!

Where did this information about the music come from?

From a knowledgeable industry source who wishes to remain anonymous. But considering the recent releases from CBS/Par for "My Three Sons" and "The Fugitive," the idea of music replacement isn't too far fetched.

I just hope everyone...writes in to help change this before the set is actually released.

If the 1st season DVD comes out, most likely I would buy it. I think The Lucy Show is funnier and overall better written than I Love Lucy.

While I hope nothing major music wise affects the Lucy Show release, I loved the show for Lucy and Viv, not for the music. The first three years are my faves and like Lee, I often prefer to watch TLS.
