what are some or a list of your favorite characters in any sitcom, short lived or well known, that were just great? Maybe their were funny, maybe an outfit they had on that made audience members get a giggle out of or it was a historic outfit that everybody knows about. Express your opinion on some of the best and enjoyable characters.

Jed Clampett
Andy Taylor Will (Fresh Prince) Howard Cunningham Balki Bartakamos (sp?) Steven Douglas (My Three Sons) Bob Newhart (on all his shows) Steve and Elyse Keaton Sherman T. Potter Frank Lambert and Carol Foster (Lambert) Milburn Drysdale Miss Jane Hathaway Dorothy Potrillo Edith Bunker Dick Van Dyke Skipper on Gilligan's Island (There are many more, but these are some that IMO, fit the description) I chose these because, I feel they were the most "well rounded". They all had a serious, responsible side, but could be very funny, too--like just the way they said things and their facial expressions and so forth. Many of these characters were capable of showing quiet wisdom, but at the same time on occasion, could be totally clueless or naive. Kind of an interesting contradictions. When it came down to being serious or practical, they could do it. |

There are so many, but the one that stands out to me the most has to be Steve Urkel from Family Matters. I've never seen a character quite like him in my many years of watching TV.

Without a doubt, I think my favorite sitcom character of all time might be Granny from "The Beverly Hillbillies." I don't know what it is about her, but I just *get* her extremely well. She's one of the few characters that I laugh at every.single.time. she's on the screen.

Urkel is classic but he's annoying too, I guess that's what made him funny lol, but it got too annoying at times. I'd say Lucy Ricardo, Arthur Fonzarelli, Gary Coleman in "Different Strokes", Kevin Arnold aka Fred Savage in The Wonder Years..so many to name though! Everybody has posted some good ones!..

I will cast my vote for Captain Benjamin Franklin Pierce.
You might know him as Hawkeye. One of the wittiest and most complex characters ever to appear on television. My idol.

Yeah, Irene was nominated in 1963 and 1964, but we all know that Hillbillies wasn't that type of show, you know? TV has to "mean something" to get recognized...it's BS!
My favorite moment was in the Johnny Poke episode when Granny is going on and on about how the kids today (then) are disrespectful and how they misbehave, and then Jethro comes in, and she screams at him, "SASS ME, WILL YA!?" Fiery old broad, but I love her! |
