I think the best one(s) were either Carol Burnett, or Ann Sothern [as the Countess]. Ann Sothern was a great addition to "The Lucy Show" while it lasted. It was a shame when she left the show. And Carol, boy she was THE perfect roommate for Lucy Carmichael. LOL

To me, the best episodes were the ones when there was no celebrity guest, and the story focused on the regular ensemble.

The celeb I always enjoyed on the show was Carol Burnett. I think she was in like 4 episodes and it was so great seeing these two Queens of Comedy working together. I think there was also an episode where William Frawley made a cameo during the Viv years and Lucy made a comment like "He sure looks familiar." Obviously a subtle reference to I Love Lucy.

I think Ann Sothern would have been a perfect replacement for Vivian Vance. Lucy & Ann had a great chemistry together and the 7 shows they did together between 1965 and 1966 were very funny. It's too bad Ann didn't stay on as a co-star. They were both GREAT togehter!

I would have to say the three best guest stars that appeared on "The Lucy Show" were: Dean Martin, John Wayne & Robert Stack. These are three episodes, in my opinion, are classics. My favorite, however, is the Dean Martin episode. It was a very funny and sweet episode. Dean & Lucy played well together. I loved when Lucy found out that she was dating the real Dean Martin and not his double; her response was classic Lucy "Why didn't you tell me you were Dean Martin?" "I would have gone out with you anyway." The parody she did on "The Untouchables" w/Stack was hysterical - the writing was excellent and Lucy and Stack were in top form. Also, the John Wayne episode was very funny. Lucy and Wayne have a good chemistry together and when Lucy creates havoc on Wayne's movie set of "The War Wagon" the results are typical Lucy.

...tried to spin "The Countess" off into her own series in 1965, but those plans fell through....as Ann Sothern decided to concentrate on her voice- overs as "Mother" on "MY MOTHER THE CAR", and never appeared on ANY of Lucy's shows again after November of '65, even though they remained good friends.
