Batman star Christian Bale has been arrested by detectives investigating claims he assaulted his mother and sister, police sources say. His arrest comes just a day after the actor attended the premiere of his new film, The Dark Knight, in London. Bale, 34, is alleged to have lashed out at the two family members in his suite at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday. The British actor, who plays the Caped Crusader, is being questioned at a central London police station, sources added. The two women, who live in Dorset, went to a Hampshire police station yesterday to make a formal allegation. The complaint about the actor was then passed to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation. A police spokeswoman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment. "He was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody." Bale had joined Batman co-stars Sir Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart at the Odeon West End cinema in Leicester Square last night. Sky's showbiz correspondent Steve Hargrave interviewed Bale at a London hotel yesterday and later at the premiere and said there was nothing in his demeanour to suggest he had been involved in an alleged family row. He said: "He (Bale) wasn't the most overtly cheery but he wasn't particularly rude to me when I sat down in the Dorchester to interview him. "Maybe he sounded a bit abrupt on some answers." http://uk.news.yahoo.com/skynews/200...r-45dbed5.html |

Oh wow, this is terrible to read. I loved Christian Bale's work in THE MACHINIST and find him to be a great actor. I'd hate to think this is true, but why would his mother and sister make such an allegation? If he did hit his mother and sister, SHAME ON HIM and he deserves to be punished.

WOW! Something "evil" lurkes in the shadows of this movie. One guy dies after filming it another abusing his family. What the devil is going on here?

i'm not surprised by any of the stories coming out of hollywood anymore. i have litttle respect for modern actors/actresses. they flash their trash all over the news and are only famous for their antics offscreen as opposed to their merit onscreen.
i can honestly say i have not seen a modern movie in theaters since 1996 and have no desire to. |

The only difference between actors now and actors back then (30's - 50's) is they had a publicity machine that helped to cover up any bad behavior such as drug use, alcohol abuse, crimes they commit such as rape (Fatty Arbuckle), when it came to moral issues such as homosexuality, etc. The studios paid big money or "hush money" so their stars didn't look bad in the public's eye.

The Dark Knight star Christian Bale has been released without charge from police custody, the actor's solicitors confirmed on Tuesday. The 34-year-old was detained and held for four hours after he attended the station by appointment. Christian, who was in the UK for the European premiere of the latest Batman installment, is free on bail until September pending further inquiries into an incident in which he allegedly assaulted his mother and sister in a London hotel over the weekend. The Welsh star denies the allegations. "At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr Bale," said his solicitor. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/hello/20080...r-8db94e1.html |

I seen several news shows discussing this issue and it seems everyone is defending Christian from these allegations simply because he has no history of violence towards anyone ever and the people discussing this felt the story the mother and sister were giving sounds a bit fishy.
No matter, I hope the truth comes out whatever it may be and someone be held accountable or someone's reputation be restored. He was NOT arrested, he voluntarily went to the police. |

Howard Stern and his crew were discussing the Bale case this morning, and a friend of the show Dominick Barbera, a prominant New york Attorney called in with some interesting info about British law.
From what I heard, a person can be arrested for "assault" without laying a finger on someone. If you act in a verbally threatening manner, lots of yelling, maybe throw a bottle, etc, that can be classified as assault on another person in Britain. If someone can clarify/correct this, please post. From what I have been reading it looks like Bale got into an arguement with his estranged Mom and Sis, and nothing physical happened. |

That is what ASSAULT is here as well. There is ASSAULT and there is ASSAULT AND BATTERY. If you do or say anything that can be considered by any reasonable person as being threatening, then one can be arrested for assault.
If a man who has a history of hitting people with a stick and he comes up to me and states, "I will hit you over your head with this stick" and I fear for my safety and it can be asserted that is a reasonable threat, that is assault. If he does hit me with that stick, that is assault and battery. If Bale said things to his mother and sister such as, "I will bash your head into that wall if you call me on my cell phone again" and she believes him, that is assault. Let me state, if he screamed at them and got into their faces and did so in a threatening manner. If a woman fears her husband's threats of being hit but he never actually hit her, he can be arrested for assault. Here is the legal definition of ASSAULT: A crime that occurs when one person tries to physically harm another in a way that makes the person under attack feel immediately threatened. Actual physical contact is not necessary; threatening gestures that would alarm any reasonable person can constitute an assault. |
