two years ago, i took my best friend to the emergency room. she had eaten something she was allergic to & wasn't feeling good, so we were worried it would ge worse. we got there around 2 in the morning, but she wasn't seen until around 6. it was horrible. i volunteer at the same hospital, but it's completely different being on the other side. it was too long of a wait and to top it off, we were both in our adorable pjs. lol.

Yeah it varies. On a good night (when i had my allergic reaction) I waited in the waiting room for *thinks back* 3 hours until we got our room. Then I just got benedryl, put me to sleep. But I have had an occurance when I've had to wait 10 hours. I wanted to just get up and leave but my mom didn't want me to do that. So I waited...10 hours plus 2 or 3 for the exam itself. Then I hear from paramedics here that we should be lucky. We only have to wait 10-12 hours. We got people coming in and they wait almost the whole day!

Few months ago we took my aunt to the ER because of what turned out to probably be gas. Anyhow, we sat there for like 2 hours and finally had to ask to even find out what was going on. We got home at like 2am. Ugh.

i was sent there four years ago for self-injury/threats to kill myself and again three years ago for a potentially oncoming heart attack. both times i think they got to me after just a few minutes.

I have asthma and sometimes my inhaler and other medicines just don't do the trick. Well, usually I wait about 5 minutes.
When I lived in Florida, my average wait was about 1 hour. It was crazy.... |

I've had to take my parents (one or the other, not both at once) to the emergency department quite a few times.
Usually late night/early morning. From my experience, from the time you walk in the door, sitting in the waiting room, brought into an examination room, having tests done, waiting for test results, and the diagnosis, it is 5-6 hours. One tip, to avoid being in the waiting room, is to call 9/11. They will transport the person to the hospital and will go right into the examination room and not the waiting room. That helps a lot. However, the paramedics will transport someone only if they have a serious or urgent problem. |

Once when we lived in St. Charles, Missouri, I had to wait in the ER for
6 hours while I was ill with what turned out to be bacterial bronchitis. |

Last June, I had a bad reaction to an antibiotic, and ended up in the ER. The wait in the waiting room was 4 hours, but it was at least a 7-hour ordeal.
These aren't ER waits, but my husband had a 3-hour foot surgery last month. I waited alone in the waiting room for about 5 hours. In October of 2005, my husband had spinal surgery. We had to arrive at the hospital at 6:30 am, and I drove home at 8 pm, as he had a 4-day hospital stay. In 2001, my mother had an 8-hour lung operation to remove a cancerous tumor. That was a long day. I was so nervous that I was vomiting in the rest room. I hate hospitals. |
