My mom said they were having a discussion about the N-word and that Elizabeth was saying she feels NO ONE should use the word and Whoopi said that's not the case and it's ok for black people to say it and started getting emotional.

My mom said that Barbara asked whoppi-"so it's ok for you to use the N-word and I can't use it?

Whoppi's response-"YES"

yes, she did start to cry. i watched it that day. and barbra told elisabeth to "just breathe." if you look closely, you could her eyes were watery and her voice was shaky. tears may not have came, but she was about to.
