Classic Soap Opera "The Doctors" possibly coming to DVD?

Read at Soap Opera Network message board that a few people have inquired about "The Doctors" and were told that there are plans to release it on DVD(has about 5,000 episodes) and that there are plans to bring it to television again.

Also saw here that more soaps might be coming to DVD(All My Children and General Hospital)

I'd like to see classic eps of old soaps from One Life To Live, General Hospital, and All My Children. From their beginnings.

Like you, I am a HUGE fans of ABC's soaps, however, the ONLY way I see the shows being given the DVD treatment might be with a "Best Of" set, perhaps in volumes and listed by year.

The closest we've gotten to that so far, are the VHS-to-DVD transferes of the "DAYTIME'S GREATEST WEDDING" series for AMC, OLTL, and GH.

For one thing, all 3 of those shows consist of 300+ episodes per year, so a complete season set would cost hundreds of dollars.

Another sad fact is that both ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE no longer have episodes that exist prior to 1974. Earlier that year, there was a fire at one of the warehouses where ABC had been archiving the shows and the pre-1974 episodes were destroyed. The only copies that exist are in the form of Kinescope copies from private collections.

However, GENERAL HOSPITAL is filmed in Hollywood and as far as I know, that show is completely archived because master tapes are stored there.

All of ABC's soaps that premiered after 1975 are completely archived -- RYAN'S HOPE, LOVING, and PORT CHARLES. And GH: NIGHT SHIFT is available on DVD.

I think it would be very expensive for them to release full seasons of soap operas since they produce so many episodes a year.

Maybe what they could do is a BEST OF set for each year, like The Best of 1987 or something.

I'd love it if someone would put together a DVD set of Ryan's Hope. Never saw the show during its original run (and I don't have cable), but I have totally loved the many clips I've found on YouTube. What a great show. Too bad they don't write shows like this anymore.
