Remember when Ernie came to visit James and said he was a "Public Relations Man? He never was going to come out and say he was a GAMBLER but he had to because of the Guys who was looking for him. And even james wanted to keep it a secret that he was GAMBLING to pay the rent so he wouldn;t look a certain way to Florida so he can protect his Image but dumb a$$ J.J didn't have enough sense to do that.

J.J says-"I only Put Money on Horses, That's All"

Florida-"THAT's ALL??,

J.J-"Yeah but it's just a LITTLE ILLEGAL"

That was a stupid J.J. moment. He had lied up until that point by telling his mother he was working at an ad agency, but he could only keep that lie going so long. Florida would have eventually figured out something was up.
