Greetings all,
Now that the classic 39 are back on WGN Sunday nights I have a questions that some of you might be able to answer for me. I have noticed that every time the classic 39 are run on tv they seem to be "uncut" from the dvd's that were put out a while back. There never seems to be anything missing from the ones that are shown on tv vs. the ones on the dvd. This just seems strange to me since I notice a lot of missing things from other various dvd's that I have such as Dick Van Dyke and Bewitched. Can anyone offer any insight to this? Thanks Clint |

I haven't compared the two versions, but I suspect that the syndication prints are time compressed, meaning the recording is sped up ever so slightly. The opening credits and theme seen rushed. Also, I have been watching/recording Newhart and these seem to run about 25 minutes sans commercials, so WGN is doing very little editing. Now, can someone explain to me why the WGN airings of the Honeymooners carry a TV-PG rating, while the same episodes run on WPIX, NYC, with TV-G ratings? |

Ratings are determined by the local stations and of course what is offensive to someone is also very subjective....I can see the TV-PG rating being a extra safety precaution due to the fact that Ralph & Alice are constantly yelling at eachother and Ralph threatens to send her to the moon and hit her right in the kisser in practically every episode! Don't forget we now live in a very overly sensitive and politically correct world......as some would take Ricky putting Lucy over his knee and spanking her in I Love Lucy as something extremely sexist or now sexual.......lol.....it's all how you look at it......also once in an episode of "I love lucy", Ethel explained to Lucy that the way Fred & Ethel "make love" is by arguing....of course back then "making love" was just kissing.....more than you probably wanted to know.....but hopefully some stuff to ponder! |
