Default Do you believe the 1969 U.S. Apollo Moon Mission was a hoax??

I meant to bring up this topic last week, but it slipped my mind I guessed. On the 4th of July, we had a party, and the topic came up on whether or not the U.S. first-manned mission to the moon was a hoax. My father actually brought it up, and I spent quite awhile arguing with him.

He says that its a hoax, which is very possible, yet I believe that it wasn't a hoax. So I looked it up, and there are many great reasons and evidence as to why it could be a hoax, but I still believe that if it was, it would have proven already, which it hasn't.

This has been going on ever since Neil Armstrong first landed on the moon, and it's still going on today. People say that moon pictures taken were too clear to be taken on the moon, lighting angles were misrepresented in the 1969 video, the flag was waving on the moon, yet we all know that there is no air up there, if Armstrong and Aldrin were the only 2 on the moon, who took the video? - evidence like this would believe some to think that it's a hoax.

So what you guys think? I'd love to hear your opinions on this!

There was a special on this topic on the FOX station abt three or four years ago and they pretty much debunked the whole myth. For every response those old farts, out of work old- fogies gave for the moon trip being a hoax, there was always a very good explanation for it by scientists, physicists, Neil Armstrong himself, and other professionals.

I still laugh when I remember one of those old farts standing outside of this rickety, old trailer and giving his "scientific theories" on the topic.

It's funny this thread was made because right now, in front of me, is a reel to reel tape that my dad recorded on July 20, 1969, of the first man walking on the moon. I wish i had some way to play it just to see what it sounds like. I don't know if it was recorded off the TV or the Radio.
Anyways, i have my doubts that it ever happend.

i saw that special in my chem class in high school. it was hilarious. looking back, it reminds me of all of the 9/11 conspiracy theories that are floating around nowadays. one of my friends is convinced the Bush administration was involved in 9/11 and has done so much research on it. i guess if you're willing to believe something, and want to, then a tiny bit of evidence that raises questions & makes you wonder ends up convincing you in the end? weird. but no, i don't believe the first trip to the moon was a hoax.

I gotta admit, I'm pretty skeptical about the whole going to the moon thing, I dunno, a lot of things just don't add up to me.

There is part of me that believes that the moon landing was a hoax. There is a lot of evidence to support it, and lord knows I love a good conspiracy theory.

Ever wonder why the US government is trying to protect the land around the so called "area 51?"

Some satellite photos have revealed that the desert around the so called Groom Lake (aka area 51) facitlty looks a lot like a rocky, barren moonscape that looks a heck of a lot like the area where our astronuts landed...

Just saying..

I think what happened on July 20, 1969 was real. Why else would Neil
Armstrong report to television audiences around the world that they(the
astronauts) had landed on the moon? Some of you conspiracy nuts out
there are weird people.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, there's no reason to call those of us who are skeptical "weird people" or "conspiracy nuts"

Understandable. I love to read abt hoaxes and conspiracy theories just to see what sounds logical. Makes for interesting reading.

I can point out to you at least 50 other areas in Nevada and California that resemble rocky, barren moonscape. When I visited Arizona two years ago, a particular town called Winslow has the world's largest meteorite crater there. The whole town looked like the moon landscape. While there, there happened to be some NASA astronauts in training who were also were kind enough to let us sit on one of the moon vehicles, we seen the flight suits, and all sorts of equipment needed for space exploration. Anyhoo, the astronauts were telling us they were practicing in a particular area and showed us how that area is perfect to train on because of how it resembles the landscape of the moon. It really did. As for Area 51, that base is now closed and I believe they moved to Colorado.

I don't think it was a hoax. I can remember way way back there was a movie about it being a hoax. I can't remember the name of it. Or maybe it wasn't even that mission but some other mission being a hoax.

You are talking abt the movie CAPRICORN ONE with James Brolin. Great movie (except the parts with OJ Simpson). It was abt astronauts faking a Mars mission.

^^^Bill Kaysing is that man who was on that FOX special. He was one of the men who appeared and was living in an old trailer, out in the boonies somewhere.

Arthur C. Clarke:

Dear Jim (JAMES RANDI), As a long-time admirer of the United States, I am appalled to hear that a recent poll suggests that 20% of Americans are ignorant fools: I hope the figure is grossly exaggerated, as no other term is strong enough to describe anyone who believes the Moon landings have been faked. If the late unlamented Evil Empire was still around, I might have suspected some of being communist sympathisers attempting to discredit the one achievement for which the U.S.A. may be remembered a thousand years from now. Remembering how quickly Watergate unraveled, how could any sane person imagine that a conspiracy involving hundreds of thousands of people over more than a decade would not have done the same? Ben Franklin put it well: "A secret known to three people can be kept — as long as two of them are dead."
And how do these nitwits account for the fact that, for the last thirty years, the laser reflectors and radio sensors on the Moon have been transmitting terabytes of data back to Earth? Who do they think put them there — E.T.s? But I can't waste any more time on lunatics: I am too busy proving that George Washington never existed, but was invented by the British Disinformation Service to account for a certain minor unpleasantness in the Colonies.

Sincerely,

Arthur Clarke, 11 July, 2001.

This is a great topic, whether you are a believer or not.
