Got my DVD set yesterday and just had time to watch the first episode tonight. (and FWIW, there is an unseen pilot made for L&S, using the Fonz's apartment set and had a different opening credit sequence--should be included on this set as an extra!). It plays like a standard L&S episode--and it is a classic. Shirley here is still sporting somewhat of the accent she had on Happy Days, but as time went along, she lost it. Laverne OTOH never seemed to have lost hers......because I think we are hearing Penny Marshall as she really spoke!
What a hoot to see Lyman Ward as Tad Shotz, later to be better known as Ferris Bueller's dad. I was genuinely surprised to see at the end of the episode an actually full blown preview of "next week's episode", which is "The Bachelor Party". I'm sure that has not been seen since the original network airing. Also, the episode looked great--like it was just filmed!

I could not stand Shirley's accent. I am so glad as the show progressed, she (or the character rather) was no longer heard speaking it. Laverne's was natural because she did talk that way.

"I said, sweet as you please Lavoin, you have a mouth like a sewuh! Which she does. And she says a sewuh, huh? Yes, a sewuh! Then she curls her fat little fist and goes....."

Hands down, BETTY PICK UP is the best L&S line ever.
