TV director Dave Powers known for his directing on The Carol Burnett Show and Three's Company has passed away. An official notice will be released soon. I just heard from Chris Mann, author of the Three's Company book, about this. Chris heard from Joyce DeWitt and Priscilla Barnes.
Very sad news. Dave was battling cancer. We will have a remembering piece on him as soon as something is officially released. We will miss you Dave! |

David Price Powers, 75, of Palm Desert, CA, born to Marion and Dwight Powers on December 2, 1932 in Los Angeles, CA, passed away on July 3, 2008,in Rancho Mirage, CA, after a hard fought battle with skin cancer. David, beloved brother of Nancy Bender of Arizona, Dennis Powers of Dennis Powers Productions, NYC and half-sister Chris McIntosh of Big Bear City, CA, will be greatly missed. David and his siblings stayed very close throughout his life and were a great source of strength and love for each other. David was the proud and dedicated father of four children, Deborah, Tim, Greg and step-daughter Lisa, as well as 3 grandchildren, Rudy, Chase and Molly. David is survived by his wife Georgette of 18 years and also cared for and stayed close to his ex-wives, Bunny and Jackie. David began his career in television in 1951, when he was employed by CBS as an usher at KNXT, working on the "Dinah Shore Show." In 1956, while working in the cue card department on "The Bob Crosby Show" at CBS Television City, he was promoted to Stage Manager and joined the Director's Guild of America, he would be a Guild member for the next fifty-seven years. He continued as Stage Manager for the next nine years, working on various programs and specials, including all of the "Playhouse 90" shows until he was promoted to Associate Director on the "Danny Kaye Show" in 1965. In 1968, after seventeen years, he left CBS and became the director of "The Carol Burnett Show." During that time, he was nominated eleven times by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences and won four Prime Time Emmys for "Best Director" in 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1978. In addition to directing "The Carol Burnett Show" for ten years he was also the director on "Three's Company" for six years and "Mama's Family" for four years. He was a true pioneer in the Golden Age of Television and will be missed by many. After retirement David and his wife Georgette made a fun and rewarding hobby of owning and restoring antique and classic wooden boats which they housed and used at their Big Bear Lake home. He served as President of ACBS (Antique and Classic Boat Society), of which he will also be missed. A "Celebration of Life" will be held for Dave on August 2, 2008 at the Four Seasons Resort, Aviara, in Carlsbad, CA. David was a proud alumni of Class of 1950, Big Bear High School. David loved Big Bear and maintained a second home there throughout his life. Therefore for those who wish to honor Dave's passing, he requested that a donation might be made to his favorite project, "CATS" Performing Arts Theater, P.O. Box 400, Big Bear, CA 92314. |

On the eighth and last season of the series, there was an episode in which Larry's boss, who was never seen in that episode or any other, loaned him his cabin in the woods of Big Bear. Having never lived in Calefornia, I had no idea whether there really was such a place. This is something that I have wondered about from time to time but never bothered to research. Now I know that such a place is very much in existance! Isn't life funny?
