Okay, I'm talking to the fellas mainly- If you were like me and were between the ages of 8 and 13 when TDVDS initially ran, chances are your first big sexual/romantic crush was on Laura Petrie. Mine was, and it feels good to get it off my chest. From then on, I looked for irish brunettes with blue eyes and perfect noses. I found one in 7th grade who reminded me very much of LP, but after a few months my Dad got transferred, and that was that. The move was actually kind of rough on me, and I remember fantasizing while watching the show, that LP was my girlfriend, or something. I know-i need help (lol)...Although still beautiful on the MTM show, something about the black & white TDVDS enhanced Laura Petrie's beauty. Kinda like the Beatles look cooler in black & white. ??

Mary Tyler Moore as Laura Petrie was oozing with sex appeal. I wasnt alive back then but I know a beauty when I see one, and a brunette too. I love brunettes

I was 10 in 1970, when one of the local UHF stations started showing reruns of The Dick Van Dyke Show, with Mary Tyler Moore as Laura Petrie.
I wasn't quite sure why at the time, but I found myself in front of that TV every day watching TDVDS, and hoping Mrs. Petrie was in every scene. Obviously the years have brought some clarity, and it's easy to understand the attraction. Simply put, IMHO there never has been, nor will there ever be, an actress so lovely! I mean, brunette hair, sparkling eyes, cute nose, dazzling smile, great build, and brainy...Laura was stunning! And she knew she had that certain something others lacked, although she never would have said how sexy she was. Anyway, MTM became a cultural icon not once, but twice, as housewife Laura (capri pants and all) and working girl Mary (with designer outfits galore) in the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Now THAT's saying something. She helped make both shows outstanding, and although it's close I'd vote for TMTMS first, partly because she was the star in that one and was just as easy on the eyes. But there's no debating this point: Mary Tyler Moore is the most beautiful actress ever!!!! |

I was born in '59, and I don't think I remember the show's original run, but i watched it very early on in reruns... MTM as Laura was definitely the most beautiful actress out there, as far as I was concerned (well, her and Barbara Eden).
She was incredible as Laura...i always considered Dick van Dyke to be just about the luckiest guy on TV because he played her husband. I was totally in love with Laura Petrie! Huge, HUGE crush! |
