Default Michael J. Fox was offered the role as Charles in the series, Charles In Charge?

I really can't imagine him playing Charles since he already had Family Ties. That would have been a huge mistake had he left Family Ties during the 3rd Season. It was a smart thing that Michael J. Fox declined the offer and stuck with the show. Could you imagine it? A show without Alex Keaton...? It was a good thing that Scott Baio had the role as Charles. I can't imagine Michael J. Fox as Charles taking care of the Pembrokes and the Powells with insulting remarks from both parties. It was a good thing that he stuck with Family Ties.

I totally can't see Michael J. Fox as Charles.

That would be like leaving M*A*S*H to take the lead role on The Love Boat.

Sounds like a fish story to me. Why would they pursue someone who was already on a hit show, who was likely under contract??

Either that or Internet Movie Database is wrong again.

I don't think that is possible. Family Ties debuted in 1982. Charles in Charge didn't debut until 1984.

Michael J. Fox did audition for the role of Flip on Happy Days, but that part went to Billy Warlock instead.

I'm sure he didn't think it at the time, but Fox was lucky not to get that part!

I read an interview with Billy Warlock in Soap Opera Digest a few years ago and he mentioned that. He said that Michael would tell their actor friends, "Thank Billy for making my career." Things turned out well for both men - they were both Emmy winners by the end of the 80s (Billy winning for Days of Our Lives).

Lisa Kudrow was in a potentially career-killing situation when she was hired to play Roz on Frasier and fired the first week into it. I'm sure she was devastated losing a role on what would become a long-running hit.

However, a year later, she was hired for Friends and ending up having a long-running hit of her own.

But Fox got to be on a fresh, new hit show as opposed to a show that was long past its glory days. And later, a movie career.

This is false. MJF was contracted to FT in 1984. He couldn't have went to CIC anyway.

I'm sure of that. And besides, why would anyone willingly leave Family Ties to be on...Charles In Charge?
