Default Lucy's Strong Stomach!

I wonder how she kept cramming down all those little pastries to avoid answering Ricky's questions. I think I counted about 12 pastries. I would have gagged. I wonder what was in the salad dressing bottle she chugged too. Can you imagine drinking up all that dressing? Maybe it was just plain buttermilk. The Vitameat stuff was really apple pectin but that stuff is really sweet and syrupy and she had to drink so much of it. I never thought of it before but Lucy had a cast iron stomach! She hated sardines too so that "ice cream" scene was gross for her and I know she barfed. But she was pregnant!

I asked on here before and never got an answer. Just what the hell were those things she was shoveling down in the Ethel's b-day episode? You say pastries, but what exactly?

They look to me like a cream puff type thing or mini-cannoli. I bet they had to be her favorite specially brought in for her to chow down so many of them!

A mini-cannoli is what they do appear to be. I always wondered what they were. I get sick just watching her eat them.

I've been trying to remember what episode had those deserts. I looked at the Ethel's b-day one but I didn't see it. It was in an ep. where Lucy said she won't talk while her mouth is full so she could avoid answering Ricky.

Any ideas where else to look?

Irene-I found your question about this from Oct. '07. That was a fun thread, listing all the food references in ILL!

Ohhhh, it was the salad dressing episode where Lucy ate all those pastries. My mistake.

And yes Stacy you are right, we had a thread abt the various foods mentioned on the show where I asked that question.

To me, that would be as bad as 'drinking' any kind of salad dressing I know

Oh I agree.

Want to hear something similar? Last week my best girlfriend and I took our sons to go eat pizza. Her son LOVES ranch dressing with his pizza, among other things. Well, he ran up to the table -mind you he is 5 years old- and here I am thinking, he is thirsty and will be grabbing his juice to drink. WRONG!!!!! He grabbed the container that was filled with ranch dressing and CHUGGED IT DOWN!
My girlfriend and I said out loud, "EWWWWWWWWWWW." He smiled with all this ranch all over his lips and he said, "That is sooooo good." And ran off to play.

I told my girlfriend how that moment reminded me of the Lucy moment when she herself drinks the dressing.

Actually, I recall reading somewhere that those cravings that Lucy had on the show were Lucy's real life cravings! I have read so many books on her and Desi that I can't recall which book I read it in, but I did read it. I have heard of women hating foods that they actually crave during pregnancy.

You are right. During my first pregnancy I craved things I hated like tomatos, cheese, broccoli, and jelly. Now, I love those things.

Were the sardines and ice cream real that Lucy was eating? My Lucy book doesn't mention that part of the scene so I have no idea whether it was real or what.

oh man....that's gross!!
i love ranch as well and smother my food and pizza with it, but gulping it down as if it's water...eww. lol.

i don't know how lucy was able to eat all that she did on the show and not make any weird facial expressions doing it. all of the little mini cannolis, chocolate candies, mints, dressing, ice cream with sardines (yuck!) would not be pleasant to swallow and she did it all without letting it affect her acting or facial expressions.
i think the sardines and ice cream were real...or they sure looked real! and then ricky joined her.
one of the things she did eat/drink on the show that sounded good was that pistachio or mango milkshake. i can't remember what flavor it was, but it was the least gross out of all of the things she had to eat. lol.

She hated the sardines, and threw up after that scene was over. Of course the "ice cream" was mashed potato and the "fudge" was brown gravy.

You really owe it to yourself to pick up THE LUCY BOOK by Fidelman. It came out in 1999 and really swept the Bart Andrews book under the table. The Andrews book is good but it's very incomplete and "dated" now.

Ugh, even mashed potatos, gravy and SARDINES is still terrible to imagine.
