Angry No surprise, 'Back To You' Snubbed by Emmys

http://www.tvweek.com/news/2008/06/t...rama_comed.php

In an unprecedented move, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has revealed the top 10 finalists for this year’s drama and comedy series competition.

On the drama side, “Boston Legal,” “Damages,” “Dexter,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “House,” “Lost,” “Mad Men,” “The Tudors” and “The Wire” all made the cut. AMC’s Golden Globe winner “Mad Men” is considered one of the early faves among new shows, while Showtime has to be happy to have two dramas in contention.

On the comedy side, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Entourage,” “Family Guy,” “Flight of the Conchords,” “The Office,” “Pushing Daisies,” “30 Rock,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Ugly Betty” and “Weeds” have made the cut. All eyes will be on “Family Guy” to see if the animated comedy can break through Emmy’s traditional coolness toward animated shows in the category.

New comedies getting noticed by the Academy include ABC’s “Daisies” and HBO’s “Conchords.”

Notably missing from the lists: ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” and CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother.” The latter had a strong year creatively but apparently didn’t break through with the older-skewing Academy. Also absent: CBS’ well-received first-year comedy “The Big Bang Theory.”

It’s expected five finalists from each category will make the Emmy cut when nominations are announced July 17. If voting is close, six (or even seven) shows could be selected.

The Academy decided to reveal the finalists in part because the information leaked early last year.

Its always the same ones year after year. Family Guy , Pushing Daisies , and Ugly Betty shouldn't even be competing in this category.

They didn't release those names yet. Hopefully Kelsey and Patty will get a nomination but I doubt it though.

Wait, Family Guy made the list?

Granted, I have always thought that Family Guy is one of the funniest shows on TV, but how did it break out of the animated category when The Simpsons was always lumped in with "animated" shows an was never considered a traditonal sitcom?

I am sure the Simpson folks will be pissed off about this.

I knew Back to You would never get nominated but I was secretly hoping at least to make the top 10 in the popular vote. To be fair, I don't remember any cancelled show to be nominated for an emmy ever so, there you go.

As to the shows that made the cut, I agree Pushing Daises shouldn't be there. It's not a comedy. They are following in the footsteps of Desperate Housewives because they know they'd never get a nomination in the drama category. Remember Boston Legal? First year competed as a drama. Now it's a comedy. Such a fine line right How about when the show was listed as a drama and it's leading lady was competing as lead in comedy? Ridiculous!!!! Same with Family Guy. It belongs in the annimated category.

That's what annoys me the most with the accademy and their selection process. To win an Emmy you should apply some kind of strategy rather than compete fairly!

God, I don't think I'll ever understand what the emmy nominators are thinking. I can't even believe Family Guy was nominated over shows like Back to You and Big Bang Theory. That show is so ridiculously overappreciated by everyone - I don't understand how the emmy execs can find the kind of humor funny.

On another note, I'm kind of surprised Desperate Housewives didn't make the cut. The shows always been favored by the emmy committee, yet shows like Pushing Daisies and Boston Legal, which I would consider more drama than DH, made it.

This isn't the actual nominations, Julie. These are the 10 shows in the running. 5 of them will make it. Boston Legal is in the running for drama, not comedy.

i agree with you. family guy is indeed overrated and overhyped as well. the reason why people enjoy it is because it takes the piss out of other shows and actors, although i for one don't understand how a show such as this manages to get laughs by just making pop cultural references. but oh well, if the fans like this type of humour then so be it i suppose

I know, but I'm still surprised at some of the shows that are in the running. I'm also surprised Desperate Housewives isn't one of the 10s hows in the running - it's usually nominated.

Bask To You no suck

I usually go by the saying: if you got nothing good to say then say nothing at all - but hey everyone is entitled to his opinion even when they got no idea what they're talking about

HIMYM is a decent show ...at times...but then they brought on Britney Spears...Oh MY MY MY MY
