Default Angry kids protest gas prices after losing cable TV

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Sadie and Pyper Vance have had just about enough of high gas prices. The sisters are still years away from being old enough to drive, but that doesn't mean the $4 per gallon price tag isn't hitting them as hard as anyone else.

Cable TV was one of the family's budget-cutting casualties, leaving Sadie, 9, and her 7-year-old sister without their favorite cartoons and shows.

"Gas prices are too high," Sadie said. "I just decided to come and protest so they'd go down."

The girls marched through downtown Monday chanting and carrying signs made from old campaign signs.

"All of my mom's monny goes to the gas tank!" Pyper's sign read. Sadie carried a sign asking drivers to honk to lower gas prices — adding that her mom had to cut "cabel."

The girls got some waves and a few thumbs-up to show support.

"I think it's great," said Hamid Tayeb, who was walking past on his lunch break. "It's unfortunate that kids are doing it before we do."

I'm sure there's familys out there that are not getting meat with their meals because of high gas prices. Sad thing about it is i see things getting worse before it gets better, if it ever does.

I agree with all of you!! Good for the kids taking a stand - though in the long run, I doubt it'll do any good.

Good going, kids. Like the guy in the article said, it's unfortunate that kids are protesting before adults are...

I'm sorry kids, I wasn't paying attention.

I was trying to decide which of my 5 HBO channels to watch...

Am I the only one who sees this as sort of selfish? I mean, kids protesting because mom had to drop cable?

Protesting gas prices is fine...but do it because you can't afford food or rent or a car to get to work, which I know kids don't do, but still.

It was inventive though, I'll give them that. And at least they know why they're losing cable.

Seems sort of selfish to me too...but I guess they're kids and there is decent stuff to watch on the kids channels. The rest of it is garbage mostly. I didn't care when we dropped it, we weren't even watching it anymore.

I dunno. They're kids, so I don't hold it against them that the stunt's a tiny bit childish.

I like the fact that at least they're trying to doing something constructive instead of pitching a tantrum. Here's a thought: maybe they should do a lemonade stand &/or cookie sale and have a big sign WHY they're trying to raise $. I hope they get some GOOD publicity and that some cable co. gives the family a break. If done from the rt. angle, it could be good publicity. Or maybe one of the shows they love. Good be good publicity for them too if done deftly.
