Any thoughts on this story?

I thought it seemed very out of place on UM, but I guess that is to be expected since it was a segment produced for another show but...

I can see both sides. While I don't believe that refusing to follow that "load ammunition" command was unreasonable, I think the Navy wanted to make an example out of these sailors. I definitely think charging them with "mutiny" was too much. I believe there is a charge of "insubordination" - basically not following orders - that would have been more fitting - presuming the men should have been charged at all.

I don't think they should have been charged with anything. They were asked to do the most dangerous task because of their skin color. Besides that they were asked to do so too fast for it to be done safely because of some stupid competition between the men in charge. Who can blame them for balking at that. Its their supervisors who should have been in trouble.
