Before I begin, I would like to personally thank y2kjoker for suggesting this topic to me. I wasn't sure when the right time would have been to post this, but right now seems like a good place to start.
Last May, all of the major US networks announced their fall 2008 schedules during their annual upfront presentations. Once all of the details had become finalized, the Canadian networks began their upfronts more than a week later, where they announced their new programming lineups that also included highlights for their various cable and specialty channels (which I'll cover in Part 2) and digital channels (Part 3). Before making their announcements, the networks tried to furiously outbid one another to gain the rights to the many US series, both old and new, that are available, while also hoping to win viewers with new Canadian shows that they hope will turn into another "Little Mosque" or "Corner Gas". Once again, the CBC refused to take part in the bidding, preferring to keep their programming 100% Canadian-made, which is probably why hardly anyone watches the CBC anymore. But for those who do, here's what they'll have in the primetime hours:Monday 8:00 Dragon's Den 9:00 The Border 10:00 CBC News:The National (Mon-Fri at 10:00 pm) Tuesday 8:00 Rick Mercer Report 8:30 This Hour Has 22 Minutes 9:00 The Tudors Wednesday 8:00 Little Mosque on the Prairie 8:30 Sophie 9:00 The Fifth Estate Thursday 8:00 Nature of Things 9:00 Doc Zone Friday 8:00 Royal Canadian Air Farce 8:30 Rick Mercer Report (encore) 9:00 Doctor Who (Season 4) Saturday Hockey Night in Canada - Game 1 (7pm-10pm) (56th season!) It took a while but I've also finally found the new fall schedules for a couple of independent stations that operate primarily in Southern Ontario but can also be seen in other parts of Canada.
SUN TV ---SUN TV is owned by Sun Media, publishers of the Toronto Sun and other daily newspapers across Canada. DAYTIME 6:00 am to 11:00 am Various shows 11:00 AM People’s Court 12:00 PM Ready Or Not 12:30 King Of Kensington 1:00 Danger Bay 1:30 Beachcombers 2:00 Paid Programming 2:30 My Secret Identity 3:00 A-Team 4:00 Incredible Hulk 5:00 America’s Funniest Home Videos 5:30 CANOE Live (Local programming) 6:00 Super Dave Osborne 6:30 Scrubs 7:00 Becker 7:30 George Lopez PRIMETIME Mondays 8:00 World’s Most Amazing Videos 9:00 One Tree Hill Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8:00 Movies Thursdays 8:00 Smallville 9:00 Supernatural Fridays 8:00 Forensic Factor 9:00 Movies LATE NIGHTS 10:00 To Serve and Protect (Mon-Thu) 11:00 The Grill Room (Local Sports) 11:30 Alfred Hitchcock Presents 12:00 AM Comics Unleashed WEEKENDS IN PRIME TIME SATURDAYS 8:00 Dateline NBC 9:00 Boston Legal 10:00 48 Hours Mystery 11:00 To Serve and Protect 12:00 AM Bikini Destinations SUNDAYS 7:00 60 Minutes 8:00 The Game 8:30 Girlfriends 9:00 Boston Legal 10:00 King Kaboom (whatever that is) 10:30 Street Eats (Local program) 11:00 To Serve and Protect 12:00 AM Bikini Destinations For me, what stands out here is the fact that "Leave It To Beaver" has been removed from the daytime lineup which, in my mind, is considered an unforgivable sin. (Damn, I wish I had RTN!) CTS CTS stands for Crossroads Television Systems. (Remember that now. I'm not typing it again!) It is mainly a Christian religious channel based in Burlington, Ont. which is about a 40 minute drive south of Toronto. CTS operates stations in Ontario and Alberta, where it owns studios in Calgary and Edmonton. During the afternoon, it shows reruns of classic sitcoms and dramas that they feel are suitable for family audiences. As of Sept. 1, their lineup will look like this: 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM Religious programming and talk shows 3:30 PM The Hogan Family/Saved By The Bell (after Christmas) 4:00 The Facts Of Life 4:30 Family Matters 5:00 7th Heaven (also shown at 7 pm on weekends) 6:00 Family Ties 6:30 Full House 7:00 Laverne and Shirley 7:30 Happy Days 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM More religious programming and talk shows Overall, it's not bad but not great either. The best you can say is that there should be something for everyone's liking. This takes care of Canadian fall schedules Part 1. I'll begin Part 2 next week. |

I'm planning on doing a Canadian Fall line-up for the blog sometime next week. I have TV Land Canada, DejaView, TVtropolis, CTS, and possibly more to share.

Hey Sal, can you find out why CTS is not available across Canada?
I have BEV (BellExpressvu) and CTS does not show up on my channel grid (even though BEV carries this station). What's up with that? Joker |

Joker, CTS is available on cable in Ontario and Alberta. The rest of Canada can get it on Bell ExpressVu channel 651 and StarChoice 355. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to find it. You'd have to take that up with the satellite company. Also, I have the TVTropolis and DejaView schedules and I'll put those up soon. I'm still waiting for TV Land Canada. I'm not sure when their schedule will be up. |

That's right. That is not a typo. Terminator is in. Big Bang Theory is out. For the moment, it's not on any of the Canadian network schedules, but it may reappear if one of the new series bombs, which is inevitable. |

I wish Sun TV would bring back Here's Lucy, I used to watch that show everyday. I wonder why we don't get I Love Lucy in Canada.

These schedules have their ups and downs.
HATE that Leave It To Beaver is gone. Classic show that will no longer air in Canada . I own Season 1 & 2 on DVD so I hope they release the next seasons soon.On the other hand, one of my favourite shows Family Matters returns. I will be so happy to finally see the Winslows back on my tv. |

Would someone with a DVD Recorder be willing to record The Hogan Family for me off the CTS channel?
I can not get this channel as part of my TV package and I desperately need someone to record this. I would be willing to compensate you for your time. If anyone is interested, please PM me. Thanks Joker |
