Did Radar Ever Sleep??

I ask this because there were several episodes where someone would barge into his office in the middle of the night, wake him up and demand that he put a phone call through to the states because of what they thought was some urgent thing.

There was also an episode where Frank Burns was in charge and he wanted something done. When Radar pointed out it was 2 AM, Frank was unmoved and insisted they wouldn't rest until they were finished.

Radar was always working and never seemed to get much rest. He probably slept the first week he returned home.

Usually right before someone barged in rudely and demanded something of him. That's how I remember 'em.

It must have been hard for Radar (and later Klinger) get any rest. The post op ward was in the next room and the operating room was right around the corner.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot that M*A*S*H took place during wartime.

It probably varied. Having been in the 82nd Airborne for field problems and later in the National Guard--when things get busy it's go, go, go 24/7; you get your catnaps when you can. During the 'down' times (and there aren't many) you sleep more or less on a normal schedule.

Being a 'mobile' hospital and therefore in the field, sometimes there'd be a number of casualties on M*A*S*H*, in other episodes hardly, if any casualties. I suspect Radar would have adjusted his sleep schedule accordingly.

(I think Rizzo in the motor pool probably snuck in more sleep. Radar was at the heart of the unit's HQ, right in the thick of things, and therefore, busier.)

Radar ran the camp, especially during Blake's time and even Potter's.
It was Radar running ***** that freed up the C.O. to do more medical work.

This was the storyline when Radar got the discharge and refused to leave. He was such an intricate part of the daily running of the camp, that he thought that no one could replace him and everything would fall apart without him there. Klinger was a logical choice, and although he had to be trained for the job, Klinger also had a lot of street smarts and knew how to get stuff done.

In MASH, Radar was only 19-20 years old so he had boundless energy to do things anytime of the day, and he had to stay on top of things, even if it meant life or death.

I agree. But my take on Klinger is that he struggled to do his job sometimes, whereas Radar usually had things under control. Potter yelled a lot at Klinger because he would be three weeks behind with the daily reports, etc.

Radar, on the other hand, just seemed to roll with it. The only time he seemed to be thrown off his stride was when, say, Hot Lips would come in, throw a fit and trash his office.
