Default Job Advice for those of you who are 18-23, these are three ways to lose your job

1. Not willing to work as a team to achieve company goals

2. Not having a LIKABLE personality around your co-workers

3. Not have a good working relationship with your supervisor

These were the three reasons why a co-worker of mine was just let go yesterday and now she is out of a job and have to find something else with the tight job market.

So make sure that you are always LIKABLE, a TEAM PLAYER, and have a strong RELATIONSHIP with your supervisor

those are the 3 things that has keep me employed for 9 straight years

here's one that I see happening almost on a daily basis:

4. Talking on their cellphone all day with personal calls.

i was given a job and then denied it earlier this week because they said i did my drug test wrong. not that i failed it, but that i somehow just did it "wrong." they lied to the people who called and defended me. the lady who got me the job said that it's common for them to lay off people for weird reasons like that and then ask them to come back, and i hope they do just so i can tell them that i'd rather live on windex. i'm already working somewhere else anyway.

Never being where you're supposed to be or spending half your time talking to co-workers is another way. Unfortunately, I work with someone like that and she's still employed.

5. Spending time on the Internet, doing anything (shopping, chatting, fowarding e-mails, looking at porn) that isn't work related.

A friend of mine lost a very good job at an insurance company because of the amount of time he spent on the net on the job--the company has that security software that keeps tabs on what an employee does while on a computer.

6. chilling in the back room ALL the time! at my last job, a lot of the supervisors would just chill in the back room when they weren't even on their break, pretending they were super busy. but all they were doing was checking their phones & reading magazines while the rest of us were working in the front of the store.

the not having a likeable personality is so true. it's just not fun working with anyone who has a grumpy attitude. no one likes it.

I think the thing that caused her to lose her job was her SHAKY RELATIONSHIP with her supervisor who had just been promoted and was pretty much in control of the entire department. She wasn't really a grumpy women, just wasn't able to have the relationship with her supervisor that you need to have in order to remain employed. So the job was looking to FREE UP some money for the budget and since she was the LEAST LIKED employee she was let go and they made it seem like it was layoff when it really wasn't

Sounds right on the money to me. All three are essential. Also try not to surf the net (a hard one for me - but I only go on sporadically)

I would be too afraid to surf the NET if I started a new job, I would have to observe first and see how things are before accessing the NET

A wise policy to be sure. I'm a little fortunate that I'm in a job that involves a tiny bit of research on the Net so I can sometimes get away with going on sporadically (like 5-10 min) to look up something. But I really do have to watch it. BUT I MAKE REALLY SURE MY WORK GETS DONE FAST so no one can claim I'm not being productive. And YES I'd never do it at a NEW job.

I sometimes go onto Wikipedia to look up info on something. And I've gone on sites to learn more abt Diabetes (since I'm borderline) If I'm at work after hrs, I may just quickly check out S.O. to see if anyone responded to one of my posts but I'm never on S.O. more than 3-4 min. I NEVER actively log on from work to post - only from home.

I'm 18 and I make sure I do all of that. My bosses just happen to be my family members so I have to watch my ass; I mean I go to work and there's my dad, and I come home and so does dad. There is no escape !!!

You got that right Jude.

I am sure many workplaces and companies have that software installed and when you least expect it...BAM!
