Not including series finales, of course. The episode has to have the character in it, and then they leave for whatever reason. I'm not talking about episodes where the other characters mention how the character left (for example when Trapper John left M*A*S*H).
For those who don't want to know why certain characters left, this contains spoilers, lol. Lowell joins the Witness Protection Program on "Wings." Catherine leaves WNYX for a job in London on "NewsRadio." Bobby leaves Sunshine Cab Company for California on "Taxi." Randy leaves home for a year in Costa Rica on "Home Improvement." Henry Blake gets discharged and heads for home on "M*A*S*H." Radar gets to leave the 4077th after his Uncle Ed dies on "M*A*S*H." Ted has to leave the Bar None Dude Ranch to go to summer school on "Hey Dude."* Adam leaves for a photography job in London on "Ellen." Eric leaves Point Place for a year in Africa on "That '70s Show." Richie leaves Wisconsin for Hollywood to become a screen writer on "Happy Days."** *Ted returns to the series later on, but still. It's his last episode for a while. **This is really more of a guest spot for Richie, since he had been off the show for three years. But still it's a memorable farewell episode. What are some others? |

Mike and Gloria leave All in the Family. It would have made a great final episode.

Lenny Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) retires during the 14th season finale of L&O.
On Dukes of Hazzard, Enos Strate was spun off onto his own show in the third season. He got a big send-off, but was back in Hazzard County before too long. |

Diane Chambers has a last episode on "Cheers", where she leaves the bar in order to write a book.
Gomer Pyle has a last episode on "The Andy Griffith Show" where he leaves Mayberry to join the Marines. The Ropers have a last episode on "Three's Company" where Stanley sells the building and has a goodbye scene with Jack, Janet and Chrissy. |

In an episode of "Married... With Children," Kelly briefly moved into her own apartments because she couldn't stand Al beating up her own boyfriends.

I've changed the title of this thread from "Episodes Where a Character Leaves" to "Character's Farewell Episodes", because I think the second explains what I mean better.
Some more: Arturo has a final episode on "Sliders". He's shot and killed saving Quinn from Colonel Rickman. Kelso has a final episode on "That '70s Show" where he leaves Point Place for Chicago to be a security guard in the Playboy Club. |

THE JEFFERSONS leave Queens on "ALL IN THE FAMILY" and "move on up" to "a dee-luxe apartment in the sky" in Manhaten.
Florida leaves "MAUDE" for someplace that's just "an hour away" according to the farewell episode, but instead becomes Florida Evans, and winds up in a housing project in Chicago, on "GOOD TIMES"-(which IS a spinoff of "MAUDE, but don't tell Solomon I said that! )
