Default Worms! I'm afraid of worms, Roxanne! Looking for Cyrano tributes/parodies.

Hey, all. I'm looking for episodes of sitcoms, etc. that have done a parody/tribute/ripoff of 'Cyrano De Bergerac'. I don't need Steve Martin's Roxanne (from which my title is a quote) but I do want anything else that is Cyrano related. I know that The Brady Bunch, Muppet Babies, and many others have done these 'tributes' to this classic, so I'd like to get as many of them as possible. I want to put together a special edition of this classic, and would like to use these episodes for it.

Also, if anyone has the Derek Jacobi/Royal Shakespeare Company version of the stage play that was on PBS, I'd very much like to have that as well.

Lots to trade! Let me know. PM, email, or in this thread! Thanks.

The RSC version was released on video tape a looooong time ago. I would guess that it's probably available on DVD as well, though I'm not sure.

I don't think I have any of the parodies myself, though I used to be something of a Cyranophile. While you're looking around, make a special effort to get the episode of Roseanne in which her sister understudies Roxane in a local theater production.

There was also a Mr. Magoo version and another animated version (an ABC Afterschool Special, I think) for which Jose Ferrer supplied the voice. These were both also released on video tape some time ago.

The RSC version was indeed released on video a LONG time ago, and is long out of print, and not available on DVD at this time. Thanks for the heads up on Roseanne and Mr. Magoo! I know the afterschool special is floating around the trade community.

You know, I think the Roseanne episode is on Nickelodeon tonight. (Actually tomorrow morning 6/24 at 4:30 A.M. EST.)

My guide has it listed as an ep titled Community Theater. I believe the actual ep title is Communicable Theater. (As Dan has a bad cold/flu which keeps Roseanne from helping Jackie prep for her role as Roxane.) But the brief plot description sounds right.

So, NO ONE has any of the Cyrano things I'm looking for? Not even the ABC Afterschool Special? Wow.

Gonna bump this because I'm STILL looking. If anyone can get me the Afterschool Special, or the Roseanne episode, or the Brady Bunch episode....etc. That would be AWESOME.

If you still need the Magoo version (and if you're into VHS at all), I see there are a couple of video tape copies available on eBay.

I did buy the VHS version of the Afterschool special, when it was officially released. If I find it somewhere in my mess of a collection, I'll see what I can do about getting it transferred.

Thanks sbeamish! I appreciate the information. I'll swing over to ebay in the next couple of days and see what I can dig up on that one. And if you happen to find the Afterschool Special episode, we can do a trade! Thanks again!

Bump. Still looking, esp. for the ABC Afterschool Special version, and the Jacobi/RSC version. Thanks.

Just thought I'd mention this. I recently purchased a bunch of original production stills on eBay, simply because there was a "Mr. Terrific" still in the lot. But there was also a shot of Danny Kaye dressed as Cyrano for a sketch from his variety show from around the same period: 1967.

Very cool! Thanks for letting me know about that. Sounds like a great pic. Just to update, I have picked up the ABC Afterschool Special since I last updated, and the Roseanne episode 'communicable theatre'. And even the Andy Griffith Cyrano episode! Would still love to find 'Cyrano De Brady' and the RSC version of Cyrano.
