With all the sitcoms that have appeared on TV Land, it boggles the mind that Ozzie and Harriet never had a regular run on that network.

It would have been great to have it on a few years back, but not now. TV Land just butchers all the old shows now and so much would be lost if they did show it. I would rather it on DVD's. TV Land has just about disentergrated completely all the 50's and 60's shows in the past three years.
Shows ran between 26 and 28 minutes and they would cut it to 22 minutes to get in all their commercials. That's a good 4 to 6 minutes of lost show. |

TV Land doesn't care anything about classic shows--it is just burning off contracts at this point. Once the current contracts expire, don't ever expect to see evergreens like Lucy or Andy or Beav on the network anymore!

Thanks everyone, I never realized such strong opinions about TV Land were held by so many people. i also enjoy collecting episodes on DVD and would like to know if anyone has episodes with out-takes at the end? If you know of any please supply the title so I can add to my collection. Thanks again.

TVLand is a mess. They need to go back and read their "mission statement" (If they have one) from the 1990s. Also, they need to look at some tapes of how good they were back then, say around 1998.
Remember the back to back stuff they did in the morning (they called it Twice as Nice)? 2 episodes of My Three Sons, 2 episodes of Petticoat Junction, and others. Even with shows that might not be your favorite, you could still have it on and be entertained while doing something else. I don't agree they will dump all the Beavs, Lucys etc, though. I think what they have left of good shows, do well for them. Also note on Beav and AGS they have gone to the trouble of redoing all the end credits of these shows. Much as I miss the themes, I'd say they would not go to all that trouble and then dump them. |

"Twice as nice", I loved when they did that and when they ran full episode weekends. I don't think they will ever get rid of Beaver and Andy because these two shows are what keeps them going. I think they will try to stop Lucy when the contract ends and it will hurt them big time. They keep trying all sorts of shows, but nothing is working. They've lost the audience that made them and think they can capture the younger audence, not going to happen.

Janine, try an Amazon search, they have many of the old Ozzie and Harriet shows. There was one older set of 80 episodes, I believe, that was terrible and more than half the shows wouldn't play. Just read the reviews and you can figure out which one it was.

As much as I dislike their so-called original programming, it must be doing well for them. But they shuffle programming around so much, you never know when anything is going to be on. Even TV Guide (the cable and DVD recorder version) can't keep up with it... Like I said before, they're a mess. |

For anyone starting out the best choice is "The Essential Ozzie & Harriet Collection" by Mill Creek Entertainment....a 12 disc 100 episode collection for under $20...nothing beats it! and of course the official shout sets, the second being released in july.

Lucy BTW, moves to Hallmark in January 2009, folks.
You can agree to disagree with me, but TV Land is moving AWAY from classic programming. As reality continues to draw bigger ratings for them and more movie blocks are added, you will see a channel that is a shadow of its former great self! |

It will be interesting to see how fans, are there many left, of TV Land react when Lucy is gone. Their format keeops changing, they keep shuffling the "good" shows so much you can't find them, I really don't know how much longer they can survive. If they ever take away Andy Grifith, they're doomed for sure.

This is the set I got from Amazon they was terrible: The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet Box Set (1952) 490 minutes. There are about three reviews that say about the same as I do, it just doesn't play well. There are about 8 radio broadcasts that are good though. I tried playing it in three different DVD players and none showed any different, so it had to be the DVD itself. I messed around and never sent it back for a refund as I should have.
