Emmy voting has already started so I thought it would be fun to discuss nomination chances for Back to You as series and its cast. There’s no official news yet as to which episodes have been submitted for the series. Tapes submitted for the acting nominations Lead actor: Kelsey Grammer, “Pilot” Lead actress: Patricia Heaton, “Gracie’s Bully” Supporting Actor: Fred Willard, "Cradle to Grave" Supporting Actor: Ty Burrell, "Fish Story" Supporting Actor: Josh Gad, "Something Up There" Pros 1. Emmy voters love big comebacks! Patty and Kelsey are considered Emmy darlings. Both have won a combined 7 statuettes and garnered many nominations in the past. 2. Patty, Kelsey and Fred are among television’s finest comedic actors 3. Ty Burrell was considered by many fans as the breakthrough performer of the year 4. The whole creative group behind BTY has a long established record of emmy winning projects Cons 1. Well, the show got cancelled, unfortunately. That may have hurt its chances to be considered for a nomination. In the past, actors of cancelled shows have been nominated but a cancelled show has never been nominated (as far as I know, anyway!)) 2. Patty Heaton’s political activism may have unfairly hurt her chances for a nomination more so than Grammer’s. I would LOVE it if Emmy voters would prove me wrong here. What do you think? |

I honestly don't think there is much of a chance. The media seems to be in love with shows like 30 Rock, Pushing Daisies and the Office. Add to the fact that Patty and Kelsey are very outspoken Republicans and that is not a good mix for gold. They should be considered however, because the truth is, they were the funniest characters on tv this season.

Well, I'm sure you know what I think - Back to You definitely deserves an Emmy in someway! Even if it was for best lighting or constume wardrobe, if it can get a nomination, that may be another chance for the show to come back.
I think all the actors deserve a nomination in someway. Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton were great, and so was Fred Willard and the rest of the cast. Here are a few of the noms I'd give it: I think both Kelsey and Patricia deserve the award for Lead Actor/Actress for the finale episode, "Chuck and Kelly, Doin' it Again." They were just outstanding together, especially in the end when they announced that Gracie was their daughter. If any episode should be submitted for anything, it should be that one, as I would probably consider it the best in the series. Same goes for "Hug and Tell," which I thought they did just as well together in. I definitely think BTY should get "Best Comedy Series," but that's likely to go to one of the NBC sitcoms for some reason I'll never understand. I think Fred Willard was funny in every episode, but I agree with you on "Cradle to Grave." I think Josh Gad should get nominated as Best Supporting Actor for "Something's Up There," just because I still have that immage in my head of him with the raccoon. Ty Burrel was great in "Hug and Tell" as well as many other episodes, so that's a tossup for me. |

As to Patty and Kelsey I like both their submissions although I would have picked "Hug and Tell" and "One step forward two steps back" and submitted them as one episode with part 1 & 2. That would give them a better exposure. Now if they made some surprisingly Hollywood-loved anti-Bush/anti-war statement in the upcoming weeks they would definitively be a lock for the nominations ! They might even win !I'm just kidding, don't want to get all political. But I do hate the fact that everyone praises free speech but then attack others just because they happen to disagree with their opinions. Can't stand the hypocrisy! My two cents !!!!

Or, maybe we'll all be suprised and Back to You will get a nomination. Is it likely? No, but still, with this show, you never know.

I still doubt it, because there is so much hate against the show. Why, I have no idea.

BTY really does deserve to win best comedy but yea NBC's unfunny comedies The Office or 30 Rock will probably win.
hno: Their seems to be a prejudice against sitcoms that are filmed in front of a studio audience. It was good for 50 years but not in the new millenium I guess.
