Crazy Anna - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

As many of you probably know, I work in the registration office of a community college. There is a girl named Anna who comes in quite often who is a little slow and if there is any problems with her registration, she gets a little worked up. Many of the people who I work with refer to poor Anna as "Crazy Anna" and it really upsets me. The poor kid can't help of she is a little slow. Also, she is a very sweet person. I always tell everyone to give her a break, but they still call her "Crazy Anna" anway. It really upsets me.

Anna reminds me of a girl I worked with at Target named Lauren who was also a little slow and people also made fun of her. Even though I never made fun of Lauren and and always felt sorry about how she was treated, I never did anything about it. With Anna, I've tried to put a stop to it, but with no luck.

I've changed a lot since I started working with Special Ed kids. Not that I ever made fun of them before, but they made me a little nervous. And although I work mostly with kids with disabilities, they are still people with interesting ideas and often very big hearts. I think everyone should spend some time working with these kids of people. Hopefully they would realize how wrong they are to rudely use labels like "Crazy." Mental birth defects seem to happen A LOT.
