Default Is it odd for...

an older, married professor to ask his female student if she'd like to get a drink with him some time and "do something fun" (This "fun" was not specified)? Would you think this is normal? Because this happened to me and I'm confused.

I'd think it was inappropriate. If he invited his wife along, then okay. But what kind of fun goes with drinking...ya know?

This person is me, by the way, lol. I probably should have elaborated in my original post. He didn't invite his wife along (or anyone, for that matter). Plus, he is still technically involved with me at the school since he will be my professor again in the fall and is my advisor for the magazine during the summer.

if he said lets meet at the library and talk thats different but the mention of alcohol seems rather suggestive. it sounds like he's hitting on you for sure.

nope. it doesn't sound normal, especially since it's getting drinks. maybe if it was a lunch dealio with other students and his wife, then it would be more appropriate.

If he is married, and currently your professor, I think it would be a bad idea to go out with him, Kristel.

If she's still his student definitely wrong. If so, doesn't sound kosher to me.

Why would her not being his student matter?! He's married! It's inappropriate either way.
Though it is not really surprising since a lot of professors nowadays seem to have no morals anyway.

Personally, I would make this known to the university's administration, since you are probably not the only one he has made advances toward. Then, if(when) they don't do anything, I would ask to transfer out of his class and away from this creep.

But yeah, from the info you gave, it sounds like he wants more from you than "intellectual conversation".
