Default New info on Hugh's marriage

Kathryn Adams Doty (Hugh's confirmed ex-wife) has written a book entitled...Becoming The Mother Of Me. She writes about her realtionships with her parents, her time in Hollywood and her marriage to Hugh. Go to this link and you can read more about the book. She said that it was more difficult to deal with the memories of her Marriage to Hugh and she worried about how her kids would handle the book knowing that her marriage to Hugh indeed ended in divorce. I will be reading this book.

Here is the link...

I will do that and you are welcome. I don't have it yet. Instead of buying it I'm going to check to see if our library has it first and if they don't I will have to buy it.

Yeah, please let us know...

Man, she must be really angry to have to talk bad about him after he's been dead for so long...

I don't know if her children really did tell her the truth when they read the book. I wouldn't.

You guys are sure brave... I bet she's got some nasty things to write concerning Hugh and might call him a wife beater and stuff...

Btw, I hope I'm wrong and she doesn't say that many mean things he did to her...

From reading the article, I don't get the feeling that it's going to be a scathing account of their marriage. Since their marriage ended in divorce, I'm sure she has painful memories; although that doesn't necessarily mean that the marriage was an abusive one. My mind doesn't even go there. Their son loved the book, so that's a good sign.

I'm going to check my libary as well. I'd like to read it, but only the parts about Hugh. I'm not interested in his ex-wife's life story. I'd like to read a biography of Hugh's life. That would interest me a great deal.

Yeah, their son loved it but what about the other kids? A part of me is curious but I just don't know what kind of marriage and since I like him, I'm scared that it might have been a bad one as to abusive and stuff...

Grant it, maybe things when downhill after that accident that killed his mom..

His ex states that their son loved it. The fact that she didn't mention their other kids doesn't mean they didn't didn't like it. I've never heard that Hugh was abusive, so as I stated, my mind just doesn't go there. If that was the case, I think it would get out. Things like that usually do. What accident killed his Mom?

Yeah.. this probably will be in the book as well... During the first season, while the producers were fighting with the censors over the toilet being shown (Captain Jack episode), Hugh flew to L.A. while his wife, young son and mom were driving to L.A., I guess from Minnesota...

So on the way there, there was a car accident involving his wife, young son and mom, which the accident killed his mom and badly injured his wife and young son.

Oh, that's just awful. How very sad. I watched the Captain Jack episode earlier this evening.

I believe in my heart that he was not abusive, he was a minister. It was shocking enough to find out that his marriage didn't work, but that does not make either one of them bad people. Here's a thought too, if he was abusive in any way why would she have stayed married to him as long as she did and if her intention was to drag his name through the mud, why would she have waited this long to come out with the story? It's probably just another casuality of Hollywood. Look how much time he spent working. Then later he took on directing some episodes which would surely take even more of his time. The acting business is rough on marriages now and there was so much evidence of it being hard on them back then too. Sometimes love just isn't enough and maybe that is the case here, they could have simply just drifted apart and maybe they stayed together long enough for the kids to grow up and move out as my parents were trying to do but failed. I'm sure that is the loneliest business to be in. And if there is some negative story about him, just remember that we can't hear his side because he's gone. No matter how flat you make a pancake, there are still two sides. I have tried to find some story on his life and I can't find anything so I'm so thankful she is bringing this book out for that reason. Just like most of you, I'm only interested in Hugh's story. In her defense, although it was just acting, it must have been very difficult on some level for her to watch her husband kiss and hug another woman, and a beautiful one at that. I mean I have read several posts on people saying that the chemistry between Hugh and Barbara was strong to say the least. I have said that more then once myself. In fact, I have said that their chemisrty was off the charts! If we have seen that, she had to have noticed it too. I know that the way I feel about my husband I would never be able to handle that. I know that is the nature of the business, but not everyone can deal with that.
