Default VEI to "bundle" Seasons 1 and 2 and evaluate future seasons...

I'm sure most of you know of tvshowsondvd.com around here but in case you didn't they have alerted folks with GAB on their mailing lists about VEI's plans for GAB and whether or not to continue with the seasons releasing based on sales of the bundle pack.

The article can be found right here:
http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Gimme-Break-DVD-Plans/9697

Full credit for the information should go to the folks over at tvshowsondvd.com (Gord Lacy and Dave Lambert) but I thought I would post that link to the information for the more casual viewers on the board here and or in case you don't have emails updating you on your favorite shows either from tvshowsondvd or Amazon.

Personally I was hoping Universal might get off their tails and release more seasons, but thank heaven for VEI who is willing to at least evaluate the possibility of putting out seasons and or the potential for the whole series run to come out...

If you're like me, you'll take good releases from any company willing to make sure we have a chance to see as much of the series run as possible (in an unedited fashion of course).

Mods if this is inappropriate content you have my sincere apologies...wasn't sure if the linking was still considered appropriate here...

I'm really pissed at VEI. They made it seem like they would be releasing season 3 by year's end. Why the hell are they re-releasing the first 2 seasons. How will sales of this new set justify releasing further seasons? I don't get it. This really pisses me off. I think we can only hope at this point that universal will one day put all episodes of Gimme A Break online cause that's probably the only way we'll see the remaining seasons.

Yeah, I must say I am annoyed too. I don't see how re-releasing Seasons 1 & 2 will help the decision of releasing Season 3. Whoever has Seasons 1 & 2 probably won't buy it again. Why should we? We already have them. We would buy Season 3 and on because they are not yet available on dvd. Who makes these ridiculous decisions???

Exactly, I think they are dragging their feet, if you're not going to release something just come out and say it. Who in the world will buy a seasons 1&2 bundle when most fans already have both seasons. They should have released it that way in the beginning.

This is a stupid move by VEI

Yeah, really stupid move. And I'm definitely not buying something that I already have. I don't have season one from VEI, but from Universal so I can't comment on it. I can say though that Universal's season one was a better set in terms of quality then VEI's second season. This is a really stupid move by VEI. I'm not for best of sets but a best of set of season 3 could at least be understandable. I'm just at a loss to understand how VEI could be re-releasing the first two seasons, a product that's already been out, to justify continuing with season three and beyond!

All I can say is to just send emails. Email them and get on their nerves. Keep asking when will they release season 3 so that they will know that we want seasons 3 and beyond.

So get to emailing

Oh I'll be emailing them alright, but I honestly don't think it will do any good. It just pisses me off that they have no reservations about releasing Kate & Allie and yet we have to go through this for GAB. Could GAB sales really have been that bad? And why does Charles in Charge get another chance in the US and not GAB? I really think GAB would do better, or at least on par, with Charles in Charge. I've emailed Arts Alliance also but to no avail. I don't want to give up, but it just doesn't look good for Gimme A Break. It's a damn shame!

Very upsetting news. How much you wanna bet? "No more plans to release the series, since the bundle did not sell well."

Well, of course it won't. Both seasons have been out for quite some time. Who wants to buy them again, unless it's for relatives or a 2nd copy? They are being sold online, in video stores like Amoeba Records, et. Of course, the bundle won't sell as good as the single releases have, unless people haven't bought both seasons yet, or they want to buy extra copies.

We need season 3. The first 4 seasons are must have for any GAB fan. The last 2 could take their time arriving, but 3 and 4 should have already been released.

What they need to do, is sell the 3rd and 4th seasons together in one package.

Then later next year, the 5th and 6th seasons together in one package.

If they continue to sell them one season at a time, they will never complete the series, and will eventually abandon all future releases.

They also need to add some kind of bonus feature, such as out-takes, gag reels, and whatever else they might have in a vault somewhere.

Cast interviews, and maybe some commentaries from the cast and crew still living are also a plus.

Yeah, they ruined all the releases of this show. Some have no subtitles, some do, some just have next episode selection by skipping to every opening credit instead of skipping to see what episode you would be skipping over, there is no commentary, the cover arts don't match at all for that given season. The audio and video is good, so that's okay. But everything else they messed up on.

3 and 4 should be sold seperately, but also as a package bunched together. Same with 5 and 6, both sold seperately, but bunched together in one package. The series will be released faster this way.

If not, we won't see uncut episodes such as Joey in Blackface in season 4, Nell singing in New York in season 3, Rosie O'Donnel's first show ever as a young performer in season 6, et. We'll never see any of that. The remaining seasons all have special things about them, but 3 and 4 are really the ones they need to have out now.

They already gave us a preview of season 3, so they should be releasing it in no time. Season 3 and 4 had the best episodes. I know people season 1 and 2 did, but 3 and 4 everything got so crazy and funny, the whole family getting arrested for picketing, The Chief throwing everyone out and them moving to Katie's, Melissa who was actually a guy that the Chief wanted to marry. These seasons should already be on DVD.

I absolutely agree, especially when Seasons 3 and 4 had the best episodes of the entire series, IMO! I think that it would make much better sense to release Seasons 3 and 4 together in a package, than to re-release Seasons 1 and 2, especially when many GAB fans already have the first two seasons already. I also agree that there should be added bonus features, such as cast interviews, commentaries, out-takes/gag reels, etc.

At this point in time I'll even take edited versions of the show, just so that it's released. This sucks for people who have not seen GAB in years. If they have the rights to release GAB then why not just release it. From what I've seen they Amazon.ca have been running out of season 2 pretty lately. More than a few times I've been on that site and it has said "only 1 left in stock" OR "only 2 left in stock." So I don't know what the hold up is with season 3.

Are we all going to send VEI a to the point email about how they are making a big mistake in re-releasing the first two seasons? We need to tell them how disappointed fans are and how they are letting us down by not releasing season 3 and beyond. They obviously read the emails since they repsonded to us, so I think we need to start a mini campaign or something to get on VEI's case!

We need to find out WHY they are re-releasing season 1 and 2.

It really doesn't make any sense, unless they are adding bonus material to them.

Or maybe they are planning to do what I said earlier, and that is to release them 2 seasons at a time, in their own boxes for each season, but only sold two at a time.

However, nobody is going to re-purchase S1 and S2, unless bonus material has been added to them.

I would love to see Season 3 & 4 released together at the same time. I would pre-order them as soon as they were up for sale. However, this whole re-package business is really a waste of time. Is the packaging any different? It seems they label it a bundle (which means just wrapping both seasons together). However, the coverart for Season 2 is slightly different. Either way, I won't be buying this re-package. If they release Season 3, I'll buy it but they are quickly losing my interest in their product. And VEI started out as one of my favorite studios when I heard they were releasing more GAB and K&A. Then, nothing in more than a year. They've lost my vote.
