Default HAUNTED CHAIR anyone recall this?

Anyone remember a segment about a chair that was haunted and something bad always happened to anyone who sat in it? am i crazy? i remember seeing this as a kid and being freaked out. i had a bedroom set when i was a little that was antique and i thought it was haunted. i guess i have that antique phobia like billy bob thornton supposedly does.

I remember this one. I liked the case. I'm not superstitous but if there was a chair nicknamed "The Chair of Death" and that people who sat on it had a habit of dying afterwards, I sure as hell wouldn't sit on that chair.

A comdemned man named Thomas Busby (I think that was his name) was on his way to be executed when he stopped at his favorite pub for one last drink. As he left, he turned around and yelled that anyone who sat in his favorite chair would meet "sudden death."

So far, the curse has worked, and the chair now hangs in a local museum, several inches off the ground, so that no one can sit in it.

It is in England, in a village named Thirsk. The chair hangs on a wall in a museum there.

I remember this case as a more recent one, probably CBS, too.

When I first saw it I thought of those cheap old horror movies like Friday the 13th. At the beginning, a group wild kids run into an old man who says "Heed my warning, there is evil at that lake" or something like that and, of course, bad things do happening.

In the UM ep, a English military pilot is warned, same as the horror film, of the curse before brazenly hopping in the chair. A day or so later he dies following the car accident.

What did I learn? Teen slasher movies teach you valuable lessons which can save your life.

I was thinking of taking a trip to this little town to see if I could actually find/see the chair of death...think it would be really cool...I have no idea how far Thirsk is from where I am in jolly ol'. If I get there I will make sure to post come pics so everyone can see it.

I agree that it's a pretty big coincidence that all those people died after sitting in the chair. But I also wonder how many other people sat in the chair and didn't die. The segment made it sound like every single person who tried it out met an untimely fate right away.

I still wouldn't sit in it though.

I wonder the same thing. I just find it difficult to believe condemned murderers are given that kind of power in the afterlife to kill anyone who sits in a chair. That would be kind of ashame if it is true don't you think?

Probably an urban legend thats been spiced up over time to attract tourism, as you say there are probably many people who sat in the chair and nothing happened to them.

I mean think about it, if they thought the chair really killed all those people, I would think they would have burned the damn thing rather than display it in a museum.

Well, Don Decker, aka Rainboy, was tormented by his grandfather even after his grandfather died, so it's not unlikely that some people have some sort of malevolent influence after death.

Was that actually his grandfather doing it? Or was it just demon spirits brought by the evil that was done to him?

I believe that sometimes evil works by humans can bring about demonic posession, but I don't neccessarily think they actually pull the strings on that stuff when they are dead.

Looks like Thirsk is in North Yorkshire...that's not really THAT far away from me...will have to ask my husband when he comes home (he's english...he'd def know....hmmm might be a road trip in my future)

and NO I would nver sit in that chair or let my son sit in it...I mean, why tempt fate?
